Mrs. Leta Hayes, 40, of Port Arthur, was killed in a separate crash. C. L. Laughter, 31, formerly of San Antonio, died near Hot Springs. Gordon Watson of Ladonia was held for manslaughter in that collision, with his driver injured along with Mrs. Laughter.

Midwestern air disasters claim five lives over the weekend. In Indiana and Ohio several youths and a licensed pilot die in crashes while in Illinois and Nebraska two travelers from Kansas perish in separate accidents.
The mother of Mrs. Dana Thomas Harmon of this city died at her Lockney home Sunday night. Mrs. Harmon was called to Lockney due to her mother's illness and will return to Amarillo after funeral services Tuesday afternoon.
A cloudburst in New Mexico washed out a 200 foot girder on a Rio Puerco bridge west of Belen. Santa Fe passenger trains will be irregular for four or five days and detour via the Southern Pacific line through Deming, New Mexico until repairs are completed.
In Hilo Hawaii on September 23 residents of the north Kona district prepared to evacuate after 58 earthquakes were felt near Mount Hualalai over three hours. Observers link the tremors to possible eruption patterns and note past eruptions of Kilauea and the 1924 cone explosion. The area is sparsely populated.

Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh departed Port of Spain Trinidad at 7 16 a m for Paramaribo Dutch Guiana continuing his pioneering air mail flight. A Pan American Airways executive plane followed a minute later. Radio reports carried the takeoff to the Central Pan American airport as Lindbergh circled the city and then headed south at about 5000 feet. Weather was reported clear.
C S Pete Williams, convicted of murder in the July 4 fatal stabbing of O C Hill Jr a Donley County farmer, will seek a new trial with a notice of appeal pending if the motion fails. He was recommended for a sentence of three years and 11 months in the penitentiary after a lengthy jury deliberation.
Virgil Pointer, 45, a farmer near Turkey, goes to district criminal court in Memphis for murder in the June 16 slaying of his brother John Pointer, 48. Four jurors were accepted by noon and Pointer will plead self defense.
