A violent weekend across Texas left at least 21 dead and many injured. Firearms caused ten deaths and four wounds, including an officer near death. Auto wrecks killed six and injured 17 in Dallas Houston and Denton. A stabbing, a throat slash, a home fire, and two gasoline explosions added to the toll. Sheriff deputies arrested 64-year-old B T Gillean in Cooper for questioning as Bobby Pierce lies dead.
Arthur M. Hyde says three Chicago grain houses show Soviet short selling much larger than first admitted, likely months of activity and extending beyond a few days. Ardmore Pa Sept 22 Bobby Jones fired a 69 one under par to lead the first 18 holes of the 36 hole National Amateur qualifying. Yale freshman Sidney W Noyes matched par with 70 while Jones mixed birdies on 10 and 13 and escaped trouble on four holes.
Tri State Fair displays the finest cattle swine and poultry with records shattered and premium money rising. National and state champions flood the swine division as breeders from Terra Blanche Henderson and more enter pens. About 200 head of dairy cattle including Jerseys Guernseys and Holsteins attract visitors amid keen competition from Panhandle and Lubbock entries.
United Press report from Houston states 35 year old paper hanger Jess Maple confessed at police headquarters to the slaying of Motorcycle Officer E D Fitzgerald and wounding of Officer B Phares after a furniture store holdup. Maple said he was drunk and fired on approaching officers, claiming past army sharpshooter credentials. Accomplice E F Grimes was charged with assault to murder and tied to three robberies with firearms. Maple faces murder and multiple robbery charges.
Amarillo through its Chamber of Commerce aids cities along the proposed Texas and Pacific railroad route in gathering data for an early Interstate Commerce Commission decision. SAN ANGELO September 22 An active campaign for a real estate license law was predicted this morning on the recommendation of R E Jordan president of the Association of Real Estate Boards that a committee of five be named to prepare a bill for submission to the 42nd state legislature Emmett Morse Houston realtor and legislator said the measure would likely require a two fifty to five license fee and a bond of 1000 The convention opened with registration of one hundred delegates boards at Amarillo Brownwood Corpus Christi Dallas Fort Worth El Paso Galveston Houston Waco and San Antonio being represented Other arrivals throughout Monday and total attendance of 200 is estimated R C Burrows secretary reported twenty four boards in Texas with 560 members a slight gain from last year while the national association shows a loss He reported progress in ridding the state of unethical and dishonest promoters citing notorious instances at El Paso San Antonio Fort Worth and Beaumont were broken.
Brest France Sept 22 Nations along the English Channel assess storm tolls. A 70 mile per hour gale caused heavy shipping damage and uncertain deaths. Five aboard the Dutch motorboat Voxhol drowned near the Thames mouth. A mechanic on the British steamer Hilngworth swept overboard. A man killed by a snapping cable while aboard the Oregon. Five more drowned at Concordean near Brest. Griggs ambulance.

A staff of Bowen and McClung answers questions while waiting owners receive numbers for board appearances, with some delaying or leaving after brief consultations.
The park suffers heavy damage after a herd of 42 range cattle trampled a fresh grass stand. Temple Robinson, city forester, notes wet ground and says the loss is not yet estimable. On a Wellington area farm in the Loco community, Hoffman 5 and Edward Overcast 1 died from gasoline explosion injuries after draining fuel to burn a hammer handle. Edward’s brother Ralph 6 is in critical condition. the younger Overcast boy may recover. Funeral set for Tuesday in Wellington.
Oklahoma City reporters note Bennett Griffin and Roy Hunt in a 4-6 Travel aircraft exceeded 200 hours aloft at Curties-Wright Airport. At 6:36 p.m. they told refueling crew the motor was “purring,” as the pair pursued the sustained air flight record once held by Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine.
Wilbur Hawk president of the Fair Association says only cities bringing bands to the Tri-State Fair have special days listed in the Exposition Calendar in Monday’s Daily News. He notes many other cities were labeled but the Monday notice may mislead readers.

The board set specific damages for several claimants, with Dr H Emery listing 10351 and a conditional reduction of 6000 if a track connects east. Estimated total value of the underpass around 175000. State aid of one third would fund construction, cities and railroads covering the rest.
