Wells Dies at Dalhart Ranch
R. A. Wells aged 89 died at the Dalhart ranch home of his sons R. W. and George B. Wells eight miles northeast of Dalhart. A Virginian by birth and long time West Texas rancher, he had been bedfast since a hip fracture a year ago. Survived by two sons and one daughter, services will be held at 1 PM Thursday in Dalhart.

Blockade Seals Crete to Halt German Escape
An Allied blockade surrounds Crete to stop German forces from escaping. Allied naval air units in the Aegean destroyed 11 German motor vehicles and damaged many more, wrecking a Ju-52 on Crete three days earlier. The following day, naval planes destroyed at least 25 additional vehicles.
