Charles Lee Wheeler 43, a cement finisher, was shot dead in an alley near South Somerville in Pampa between 7:15 and 7:30. Authorities found seven empty Remington .22 shells, concluded two people fired, one fatal shot after a scuffle. No charges filed. funeral arrangements pending. Amarillo Airport Runways Could Cost Over Million

Aeronautics Administration proposes complete rebuilding of Amarillo Air Terminal runways with no firm cost figures yet. City officials estimate over one million dollars, with two CAA options to share costs. One would overlay the existing surface with four inches of reinforced concrete. the other would raise the runways to improve drainage by removing paving and adding base material. City Manager N V Moss says no immediate major rehab is planned and drainage fixes, including storm sewers, are needed. CAA would not cover maintenance costs.

Albuqueruque Sept 19 Sandia Base authorities launched a broad hunt for Capt Frederick J Fogarty Jr a 37 year old Army captain at the secret atomic weapons center who vanished Sept 13 after cashing a 400 check and abandoning his car in Albuquerque Police and military units in New Mexico Colorado and Rhode Island are aiding the search Fogarty dressed in civilian clothes left his home in Albuquerque and has not been seen since his duty morning.

Ira Stephenson, board chair, notes Kilgore will take two weeks vacation before leaving. no successor yet. In Earlham Iowa a Quaker wife explained their refusal to pay portions of 1947 to 1949 income taxes citing military expense funding. Carthage Hydrocol loan talks tied to chairman timing

Francis D Flanagan subcommittee counsel said he has evidence Gabrielson contacted the RFC after becoming chairman. Carthage Hydrocol secured three loans totaling 18.5 million dollars for a Brownsville Texas plant to convert natural gas into high octane gasoline.
