Tenants will be notified and given a chance to reply before petitions are granted. An inspector will file a report and petitions depend on the inspector’s findings and tenant response. A few registrations were still being filed after Tuesday’s deadline with penalties of up to 5000 dollars or a year in prison for violations of Office of Price Administration rules on maximum rents in defense areas.
