Rodgers Takes Blame for PN-9 Flight Incident
Commander John Rodgers and crew of four were guests at a chamber of commerce luncheon in Honolulu. He recounted the PN-9 No. 1 cruise from San Diego to San Francisco, across the Pacific for over 25 hours, a 218 hour drift after a forced descent, and rescue by the submarine R-4 near Kauai. France Flooded by American Tourists Who Spend Less But Are Better Liked
Paris reports a new wave of middle class American travelers in Europe this summer. Students and teachers travel third class to study language and culture, reshaping European views of Americans. From May 22 to June 17, 132,296 passengers sailed to Europe, with third class rising to 54,050. Despite lower class travel, shipping lines see these visitors as walking advertisements for future trips, aiding Franco-American exchange. Paris police note peaceful visits as travelers explore sites from Napoleon’s tomb to medieval towers.
