Sixty five guests attended across three rooms with a pink and white motif and a gift box centerpiece. The couple are slated to marry September 18 at the Biltmore Hotel in Oklahoma City.
With three more building permits issued this morning Amarillo construction costs for the year push toward 1.5 million dollars. Contractors say the milestone will be reached this week. John F Rowland received a 11700 mercantile addition permit for 316 Sixteenth Avenue with Randal Construction Co as contractor. Also issued were permits for two 2 story homes, to Irvin L Peffley at 607 Van Buren Street and W W Roney at 1703 Lipscomb Street.
Troy Bickerstaff is recovering at Northwest Texas Hospital from an appendicitis operation he underwent Friday. He had just returned from Slaton where his brother underwent an emergency appendectomy. Attendants report his condition as satisfactory.
Optometrists from Group No. 1 gathered in Amarillo Sunday for the first fall educational session of the Optometric Extension Program. Officers elected were Dr. J. M. Hyden as chairman, Dr. Pami Owens as vice chairman, and Dr. D. W. Leach as secretary. retiring chair Dr. M Clough of Plainview.
The Amarillo Area Council Scoutmasters Roundtable will meet at 7:50 PM this evening in Cathedral Hall at 1110 Washington Street. Guests for the gathering include Troop No. 21 with Scoutmaster Brownlee and committee members R C Brownlee.
An open meeting of all railroad employes is held this evening at 8 o'clock at the Herring Hotel to decide on the strike ballot. John J. Meskmim and Lyle McKinney will speak as leaders from the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. They say workers favor the ballot, opposing salary cuts now.
Rehearsals begin tonight for the Black Maskers first season play Three Cornered Moon directed by Dr. R. P. Par cells. In the high school auditorium lead roles go to Aileen Barker and Al Clark with Mrs. Dolly Finch in the main character part.
At a Dallas hotel open house Mann, former all-Southwest grid star and Dallas attorney, says he will not participate actively in convention discussions or seek friction. He was left off Dallas County delegates list but notes Hopkins County and about 50 other counties offered to place him on their delegations. State leaders present included Comptroller George H. Sheppard and Auditor Tom King.
Acting Secretary of State Marlin Sandlin informed Laverne Somerville that the state will not certify his name for governor. The Independent American party failed to meet nominating rules, including convention timing and proper procedures, leading to the decision in Austin. Sandlin acted while Secretary Edward Clark was out of town.
Europe prepares for possible emergency orders in Paris as about 2 million troops remain at the Maginot line and interior concentration points. Plans exist to seize railroad operation immediately. A committee is formed to mobilize national industry.
