Actress Maria Montez reportedly drowned in Suresnes near Paris after a period of intense work in Europe. Husband Jean Pierre Aumont, the actor, was summoned from the Paris area as friends noted she had suffered heart trouble recently but did not believe it was serious. Montez, famed for stage and screen work in France, Italy, and Belgium, had returned from Rome with her latest film Sensuality and had lived with Aumont since their July 1943 marriage. they have a daughter, Maria Christina. Her career included a high profile dispute over back salary in Los Angeles and a move from Hollywood to Europe earlier this year.

Wild Weather Strikes Tri-State Area With Floods And Hail

A severe storm battered Kelton 12 miles east of Wheeler bringing 4 9 inches of rain and hail. Up to 6 inches moisture fell between Kelton and Wheeler with heavy crop damage reported. Strong winds knocked down power lines and a barn roof was ripped. Wheeler saw only light rain, while other towns logged scattered showers with Amarillo stations reporting little to no rainfall.

Indians Hit Warpath In Utah Uprising

Salt Lake City dispatch says Utah Highway Patrol ordered all troopers to Bluff to quell an Indian uprising near Four Corners where reports describe drunk Utes and Navajos running wild. Patrolman Merlyn Brown and Sheriff C R Rogers went to Bluff but were forced to retreat as Indians surged through town. Longstanding tensions between Whites and Indians in Bluff have flared over grazing lands but previously settled without bloodshed.

American tourist shoots wife in prank gone wrong

In Mexico City an American tourist William Seward Burroughs of St. Louis, 37, attempted to shoot a glass from his wife Joan's head with a pistol. The shot hit her forehead. she died in hospital. Burroughs was arrested after the 27 year old woman died.
