Polio Appears On Decline In Amarillo

Amarillo may have peaked in polio cases says Dr. W. B. Thomas county health officer only one new case reported in four days. The latest patient, a young Amarillo girl, was admitted to Northwest Texas Hospital where 13 patients are in isolation. A physiotherapist from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis arrived to assist. The Kenny method is now available in Amarillo and a nurse may attend the course in Minnesota. The health officer noted uncertainty about school opening dates as his phone buzzed with inquiries.

Kansas City markets show hogs steady to 15 cents higher with top at 14.95. Cattle numbers strong with loads of choice steers at 14.85 to 15.75 and cows generally steady to higher. Burglars Break Into Fred DeCoster Home

Burglars entered the Fred DeCoster residence at 606 Tennessee Street through a back window last night while the family was away. They stole a 410 pistol shotgun two watches and a savings bank belonging to Don De Coster. Damaged furniture from scratched matches caused permanent marks. War stamps and small money were found in a boy’s bank book. a recent day’s earnings were also missing.

Spaniards Return From Russian Front Bombed En Route

About 2,000 volunteers from Spain's blue division, fighting with Germans on the Russian front, returned to Madrid and were subjected to Allied bombing while crossing Germany. State Guard officers inspect Amarillo battalion plans

Major Thomas W. Gahagan and Major OC Edwards arrived in Amarillo to meet staff and finalize weekend maneuvers four miles west of Canyon. They will set up task force headquarters at the high school for an 8 PM briefing to map area reconnaissance and outline tank activities for the Panhandle Battalion. Owners include six companies in Amarillo Borger Pampa Dalhart Dumas and Dalhart. Major Lou Roberts governs the battalion. The officers urged Amarilloans to volunteer for two local companies and possibly form new units.
