Texas Vets Not Among Stricken at Baltimore Encampment

A telegram from Walter Irvin of Amarillo reports that none of the Texas delegates at the Veterans of Foreign Wars national encampment in Baltimore were among the 150 people stricken with food poisoning yesterday. Other dispatches say affected delegates recovered. illness blamed on heat and injudicious eating was less serious than initially feared.

Reports from Kabul say the Afghan government executed rebels by shooting them from cannons two or three at a time to conserve gun powder. On one day 22 rebels were sentenced to death and the sentences were carried out the next day.

Missing Prohibition Agent Sought in New Mexico Mountains

Ray Sutton, a federal prohibition agent from Clayton New Mexico, has been missing since August 28 near Raton. A search party led by the Raton sheriff includes local officers and over a dozen men to comb the Clayton Raton area as Sutton is feared murdered after investigating a fellow officer’s slaying in Aguillar Colorado. Sutton was once sheriff of Union county and is survived by his wife a son Raymond and a daughter Mia Raymond Means of Portales New Mexico.

Attempted murder plot tied to marriage license scheme

Chicago report says 17 year old Luyle Wilkinson and 19 year old Neil Kleckner planned to kill Police Chief A A Terry of Midlothian to steal money for a marriage license. Wilkinson, an athlete from Fenger High School, lured Terry to a swampy area where a blow was to be struck. Terry fired four shots at Kleckner as he fled.

Bodies Returned From Arctic Flight Tragic Airship Journey

Picture Reaches Amarillo From Arctic Sea

NEA Service broke a speed record handling a photo of Dr. Gunnar Horn and his sealing ship en route to Tromsoe Norway with the Andree Arctic balloon relics. The image traveled about 9000 miles in just over 24 hours via radiophoto and telephoto transmissions to Berlin London New York and NEA bureaus nationwide.

From Thomson Norway Sept 5 the Andree balloon expedition notes up to Sept 5 are legible but later log pages are unreadable. The trio may have reached White Island in September after crossing the Arctic sea and a disaster is indicated by the abrupt end of the flight before reaching the North Pole.

Fall window style show planned for Monday night

The Globe News announces a fall window style show Monday September 8 from 7 to 9 p m with live music by Dave Deriden's two bands and model displays. The Junior Welfare League Style show runs 9 to 10 p m at the Nat with league members as models and Ted Jennings Original Arkansas Travelers providing music plus dancing 10 to 12 p m.
