Heavy rains swelled the Rio Grande and its tributaries washing out bridges tracks and roads in Southwest Texas towns. Sections saw over 10 inches with most areas over four inches in three days. Del Rio Brace bridge to Villa Acuna threatened by high floodwaters.
In Austin on September 2, crowds awaited action on election probes. The Senate refused to suspend rules and extend time for a House investigation led by Rep. J. C. Duvall and Harold Kayton. The House did not vote to extend, shifting possible action to Monday. The Duvall Kayton plan targets election practices by state departments and possible conspiracies by candidates or campaign managers.
A shooting in front of a cafe here last night caused the death today of John Clage, 40, cafe proprietor. A bystander, Henry Carmichael, was wounded by a stray bullet. Carpenter W. H. Mann surrendered to officers and faces a murder charge, per County Attorney Sherman White.

J. C. Bergfried, 34, of Dalhart, fell under a freight train while attempting to board in Dallas railroad yards. His left foot was badly mangled as he traveled with his uncle George McFadden.
In Brookline Massachusetts George T Dunlap Jr shot a 66 to trail Eric McRoyie but give the United States a decisive edge in the Walker Cup singles. Capt Francis Oulmet led US forces as six of eight matches after 18 holes favored the home side. Jess Sweetser moved to 2 up on John Stout while Charley Seaver led Erie Piddian 4 up at the close of the morning. Rex Hartley and Gus Moreland were tied and Leonard Crawley stood even with George Voigt.
New York certificate of vacancy in the mayoral post was sent to the board of elections after Mayor James J. Walker resigned. Joseph V. McKee automatically became mayor as president of the Board of Aldermen. Walker indicated he would leave the decision to the voters and suggested he might seek re election. He denounced the Roosevelt hearing as misfeasance and called it an extraordinary inquisition.
George L. Walden a 50 year old foreman at the Terry Thompson ranch 85 miles north of Amarillo died after being injured in a fall from a windmill. He suffered multiple injuries and died in an Amarillo hospital. Survived by widow his parents four children four brothers and five sisters. The body to be moved to Brick Oklahoma for funeral services Saturday at 2 pm. Interment in Brick Cemetery.

A major flood on the Rio Grande swamped Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras. A two story Eagle Pass block collapsed as western highway and railroad bridges were washed away. The new border highway bridge hung vulnerable as water flooded the river. Officials warned of widespread damage and disruptions to power and water supplies.
