Pageant Rodeo Set for Amarillo Fair Grounds

A large rodeo featuring cowboys, cowgirls, wild horses, and long horned Mexican steers will be staged September 22 at the fair grounds in Amarillo. Dan Miller, rodeo director, expects 4000 to 6000 spectators for the Tri-State exposition event tied to the Pageant O The Plains. Indians will participate alongside riders Shorty Kelso and Idaho Bill, with riders and clowns enhancing a Western showcase joint with Diamond S and 101 ranches.

Glovis Man Dies After Hunting Party Accident

W H Williams of Clovis New Mexico died in a Clovis hospital from a gunshot wound after a chicken hunting outing. Williams was riding on a running board when caught by a barbed wire fence and the gun discharged. He was 35 and in the auto accessory business. he recently married Anna Smith, a nurse at St. Anthony's sanitarium.

San Antonio reports Lieutenant Thomas M. Conroy and Private Hillarias Artez, Kelly Field fliers, killed when their plane plunged about 1500 feet during a practice flight after Conroy reportedly lost control just before the fall.

A Williamson county ministers association delegation arrived to urge the county board to demand Sheriff Galligan’s resignation. In Herrin Illinois, the Ku Klux Klan clash with the sheriff’s deputies ended with six dead or dying. National guard troops began to leave the city, leaving seventeen guardsmen under Capt. Harold M. Bigelow to remain until Sheriff Galligan releases them.

Primitive Lamp Triggers Fire Alarm at Soney

Picknickers at the new Soney school house near Amarillo lit a wheelbarrow fire to illuminate supper. The device caused a fire alarm. one department truck rushed to the scene over muddy roads. Residents fled as volunteers located them and cooler heads agreed no action was taken.
