Arthur Brisbane argues for timely car purchases ahead of the 1922 election cycle. Funeral services for W. W. Flenniken, prominent Amarillo insurance man and civic worker, are set for 10:30 AM at Central Presbyterian if a brother from Minneapolis cannot attend. Flenniken died at Northwest Texas Hospital after a car skid and ditch overturn near the Amarillo Country Club. He was 9:45 PM death followed an afternoon wreck that trapped him with chest injuries while C. W. Whittington escaped with minor cuts. The body lies in state at N. B. Griggs and Sons Funeral Parlors pending further arrangements aligned to family plans.
Tonight and Wednesday expect fair to partly cloudy skies with warmer temperatures. Today’s extremes were 38 and 33 degrees, with hourly readings ranging from 34 to 95, and sunrise at 7 07 with sunset at 6 54.
The Associated Press lists tonight and tomorrow radio addresses from Republican and Democratic figures. Speakers include Frank B Kellogg Hughes Houghton Schurman Ottinger Calder Robinson Poling Smith Davis Edwards Miller and others on WABC WRNY WEAF WOR WGY WGR and the coast to coast networks.
Lubbock residents plan to present a petition to the Lubbock County Commissioners Court seeking a 2 million dollar bond issue to hard surface roads. The move follows Highway No. 9 Association meetings and support from various counties showing road improvements and bond approvals. Thirty delegates attended as Swisher and Randall counties were absent.
Five men are dead after a steam boiler exploded at the McDaniel Planing Mill in Ethel Mississippi. The blast hurled the boiler 200 yards into Askin's store and damaged the local post office. Killed were L. O. Lord and machinist Peten in the boiler room. others dying later included Peten’s 19 year old son Wilbourne Raspberry fireman Ed Carr.
At 6 am the Graf Zeppelin reports a gale 250 miles northeast of Cape Race with all aboard well. Officials expect arrival in Friedrichshafen Wednesday afternoon and plan festivities including a banquet and torchlight procession. The Mauretania sighted the airship at 7:19 am with speed estimated around 60 to 65 mph.
Walter Irvin of Irvin Motor Company received the first Amarillo mail via the Graf Zeppelin route. The letter from Fred P. Meyers in Germany arrived with two francs postage and was delivered to the United States postal system aboard the airship. Irvin forgot to answer the friend before the ocean liner departed on its return to Germany.
Jewell P. Lightfoot former Texas attorney general and past grand master of the Texas Masonic lodge will speak for Herbert Hoover at 8 pm at Municipal auditorium. Judge Turner will introduce him as Anti-Smith Democrats host the event with Hugh Exum aiding. Radio WDAG will broadcast both speeches starting at 8 pm with Dave Derden’s band playing from 7:30 to 8.

Ticket prices 50 cents to 1.50 for best seats. box seats 2 dollars. Sousa band concert tickets also on sale for November 14.
Troy Horton charged with murder in the death of his divorced wife Mrs. Mary Horton had the examining trial postponed to 2 PM Thursday due to lack of legal counsel. The shooting occurred at the Giles home on South Houston Street yesterday morning. funeral plans were postponed, and Mrs. Giles was to be the principal witness.
Bob Holley remains in St. Anthony's hospital with serious wounds from a rare attack at his Tyler street room following a fist fight with Roy McKinnon. McKinnon is jailed on an assault with intent to murder charge as Griggs ambulance responds to the scene.
The report from Dallas to Beaumont notes 8 am temps from 84 in Amarillo to 70 in Brownsville, with a warming trend tonight and tomorrow. Only two Panhandle towns, Miami and Seymour, show freezing temps, while rain ends and clearing skies return across Texas easing a wet spell. Cotton damage minimal as wheat gains from last night rainfall.
The Associated Press reports Corpus Christi Texas saw a cooling day with the temperature falling to 60 degrees. A message references John Maynard for building inquiries at 800 West South Street and phone 5245.
In Excelsior Springs Missouri Bill Wright was struck in the eye by a snapped whip piece as he cracked a team of horses. His son saw blood and feared a bullet. a physician removed leather fragment from the eye. Wright is expected to retain sight.
George Harsh and Richard Gallogly, once college students, are indicted for murder in two holdups and face $160000 in damages. Harsh confesses to a three week crime spree of seven robberies. Wealthy relatives consult Clarence Darrow for defense. Mary Belle Smith seeks 100000 against the pair. FE Meeks’ widow sues for 50000 claiming the confession and noting Ellis wounded in the store raid.
Everett Cook, Potter County club boy, has his record sent to the Santa Fe railway for a chance to travel to the International Livestock Show in Chicago in November. He competes against 19 county winners for one free trip. Griggs ambulance. Phone 4311.
The Emergency Board advised President Coolidge to raise western railroad wages by six and a half percent with no rule changes or seven and a half percent with key rule eliminations. Retroactive to May 1, 1928, the plan targets wage scales and rules that have blocked settlement.
A 19 year old St. Louis youth known as St. Louis by Rye caddies has spent two years wandering from New York to Nome and back, crashing gates and caddying for money. He left a small knapsack with cloths and trophies at Rye mentor Mrs Donnelly and told friends he planned a long journey while hoping to ride the Graf Zeppelin.
