In Anson on Oct 26 jurors began being chosen to try Joyce Sheppard alias Bill Smith for the August slaying of Deputy Sheriff Jake Owens of Fisher County. Up to 96 men were expected for the panel as defense said Sheppard would plead not guilty and testify. Earlier Lloyd Condser, co defendant with Sheppard in the Owens case, received a life sentence in the related Smith killing.
Miss Ruth Elder American trans Atlantic airwoman was sent to bed under a Lisbon doctor’s care at the American legation. She suffered severe abdominal pains and a bad cough after two weeks of excitement and may not leave Lisbon for Madrid until Thursday or Friday.

About 300 miners from LaFayette Colorado led by I W W mobilized over sixty automobiles to reach Fremont county coal fields over a hundred miles away. A. Keith and family. defendants include several oil concerns. The suit was filed May 28 1927 with an appeal notice by plaintiffs.
