German Air Force Using U S Planes

The Luftwaffe has been using rebuilt British and American fighters in the Mediterranean. A P 38 downed a Flying Fortress over Terni on August 11. A P 40 was destroyed near Benevento on August 27 while attacking B 25s. Luftwaffe also fields additional P 38s and a Spitfire, rebuilt from wreckage since the North Africa campaign began.

DSC Awarded Posthumously To Sgt Jimmy E McCurdy

The Distinguished Service Cross is awarded posthumously to Technical Sgt. Jimmy E. McCurdy of Amarillo for actions during the Kassel raid in Germany on July 30. McCurdy died in combat after displaying extraordinary heroism while defending his aircraft, previously earning the Air Medal.
