In Muskogee Oklahoma on October 25 jurors split nine to three for acquittal and resumed their deliberations in the Lathe Rey Stephen Althea Ber le poison murder trial of 52 year old minister Lathe Berrie accused of killing his wife last March after alleged illicit relations with a teenage girl whom he later wed. Prosecutors say he poisoned her with uremic poison and that the minister drank and lied about his past while his defense argues lack of proof about any poisoning and accuses persecution by men. The first Mrs Berrie died after taking a sedative capsule believed by the state to be poisoned.
