Dry enforcement budget unchanged by Treasury official

Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Lowman in charge of prohibition enforcement said he will not ask Congress to increase the 1928 29 dry enforcement appropriation of 13 million dollars. He indicated Congress must initiate any extension of prohibition activities and outlined plans for an air patrol using airplanes seized from rum runners.

Jimmie Bell aged 15 received four years at the National Training School in Washington D C for transporting a stolen auto, while Jack Trippey 17 faced uncertain fate after involvement in the same theft. Marty Harland Holt alias Darling was sentenced to five years for driving a stolen car from Colorado to Texas.

A Tammerfors motion picture theater fire last night left twenty one dead and several injured as exits were blocked by crowds rushing in for the next showing. The operator warned spectators to flee as flames spread through the packed venue.

In Ludlow Colorado on October 24 two guards were pushed into Bear Creek as 28 men and seven women led by Mrs R E K Bernash confronted guards on a highway bridge. The group halted 700 miners from entering pits and Bernash escaped arrest. Deputy sheriffs later pursued arrests.
