Governor Allred pushes enactment of a county and district officer salary bill as required by a constitutional amendment. The measure would bar fee based pay after January 1 and follows Senate passage of an old age pension bill with eligibility rules for those over 65 meeting income and residence qualifications.
The U S Supreme Court was urged to hear the government appeal on the Agricultural Adjustment Act processing tax at the earliest date. Solicitor General Reed asked for November 20 argument to settle constitutional questions affecting the government budget and thousands of taxpayers amid unsettled lower-court rulings. The Hoosac Mills receivers objected to the date, suggesting December 9, but agreed to arguments.

Nearly 700 Texans attended, including former governors, Congress members, and business leaders, led by former Governor W. P. Hobby, marking the largest gathering of its kind in Houston.
Hollywood reports William Randolph Hearst will close California residences due to the state income tax. St Charles Kingsford Smith departs Croydon for a three day air mail flight to Australia. With co pilot J T Pethybridge in a Lockheed Altair, he aims to prove fast England to Australia service while perhaps beating his own England Australia record set in 1933.
Austin dispatch reports Governor Allred issued a 30 day reprieve for W. R. Hildreth, 49, who was sentenced to death for killing his wife. The note appears amid a jumble of road and traffic items.
In Charleston South Carolina on October 23 President Roosevelt returned to the capital aboard the cruiser Houston after a three week fishing voyage. Southern admirers filled the harbor for a rousing welcome and a 50 to 1 reelection vote echo from 1932. A 30 ship salute and eight planes greeted the cruiser as it moved toward the Navy yard for landing.
Cold air grips the Panhandle with Amarillo and Dalhart reporting near freezing. Temperatures dip to the 20s and 30s as sleet and light snow dust North and South Plains with towns like Texline Childress Pampa Berger and Lubbock posting new low marks. Forecasters predict a warmer spell by Thursday with continued overcast skies and frost tonight.
W A Webb named manager of the Texas Centennial central exposition in Dallas after Otto Herold resigned following a salary cut and authority limits imposed by the management committee chaired by R L Thornton. Walter D Cline had previously resigned amid salary cuts and reduced authority.
