CAB reports an American Airlines flight commanded by Sisto, seated between Capt. Beck and co pilot Logan, entered a non standard maneuver after Sisto locked controls in neutral with the gust lock. Passengers were thrown about and several sustained bruises as the aircraft was returned to level flight. Sisto resigned after the incident.
A cockpit exchange shows Beck and Logan unaware of the autopilot status as their plane climbed. Beck asks Sisto if the automatic pilot is on. Sisto says it is not. The sequence suggests a gust lock issue affecting control surfaces.
A high Brazilian source said Brazil would sever relations with the Soviet Union within 72 hours over Russia’s failure to respond to a Brazilian note about Izvestia attacks on President Dutra. Ross a San Antonio physician charged with murder He testified two police officers linked the .300 Savage rifle to the crime and the jury recessed for defense testimony after Lt Fest and Lt Hester corroborated Ross statements and evidence.
