Excessive drinking at the Amarillo Vernon football game at Amarillo Stadium Friday night spurred plans for stricter crowd policing at future games. Sheriff Paul Gaither said every deputy will police the next student section, with additional specials. Juvenile Officer Jack Grant dismissed minor violations for two youths seen drinking. Four boys were called in, two juveniles and two others, but charges were dropped after promises to cooperate with liquor board agents. The liquor board agents plan to file charges against suppliers of liquor. Sheriff Gaither stated the drinking problem must end.

Truck spotter dies in West Eighth Avenue overpass work
James P Hart 55 was killed this afternoon in a construction accident on the West Eighth Avenue overpass project. He worked for Turkey Creek Sand and Gravel of Pampa as a truck spotter directing dump trucks. Hart died at Northwest Texas Hospital after being rushed by N S Griggs and Sons ambulance. He is survived by his wife Lollie and five children. The body lies at N 8 Griggs and Sons Chapel.
