Morrison and Director Gordon Morrison outlined Amarillo’s 13 month old Better Business Bureau with dramatizations via a special telephone hook-up. He said the bureau has saved businessmen $40,000 from unwarranted solicitations and explained charity-name telemarketing scams that move most revenue out of town. Assisting were Mrs. Morrison and Heinie Henderson. The luncheon included venison main course. Tickets were handed out for the Crippled Children’s Council show Daddies on Nov 4. The Leathers family of Clarendon won the all American typical family title in New York. Mr and Mrs D E Leathers and their children John 19 and Margaret Jean 16 represented West Texas in a contest by the New York World's Fair sponsored by the West Texas Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. They will receive another trip to New York and entertainment as the prize.
Tom Mix, famed cowboy on range and screen, died when his automobile overturned near Florence Arizona. He was 60 years old and a member of the Panhandle Old Settlers Association. Survived by wife Mabel Mix and two daughters, his horse Tony is retired in the San Fernando Valley.
The Texas Association of Insurance Agents begins a regional education series with a school at the Amarillo Hotel on Wednesday led by Wayne O Keefe. About 60 underwriters from 26 Panhandle counties will attend with topics on standard coverage inland marine auto fire windstorm liability and farm business and a true or false insurance quiz conducted by D G Foreman. Farris C Oden of Pampa will preside with similar meetings planned for Lubbock and Odessa.
Oklahoma officials were granted a Supreme Court review of a federal injunction that halted work on the Grand River hydroelectric project. Gov. Leon C. Phillips had sought to stop completion until the Grand River Dam Authority paid $889,275 for state roads and bridges to be flooded by the 52,000 acre reservoir.

Santa Fe trains No. 94 and No. 95 between Amarillo and Lubbock will not be discontinued until officials in the traffic department conduct a thorough check with shippers and interested parties. In Lubbock on October 14 a group gathered for a wedding anniversary dinner at 1313 Thirteenth Street beginning at 6 13 after waking at 5 13 to honor Mr and Mrs Bill Davis who are entering their 13th year of marriage. The table held a 13 layer cake with 13 candles and 13 flowers. Reservations used telephone 1313 and the flowers were sent to a patient in room 13 of a local hospital.
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Kilgore of Tucumcari New Mexico died yesterday morning in a local hospital. He is survived by a brother Billy Dale Kilgore. The body was sent to Tucumcari for burial in a local cemetery by N. S. Griggs and Sons.
Five men pleaded guilty in federal district court this morning and were sentenced by Judge Wilson. William Boynton, former teller at the American National Bank, received a three year suspended sentence for violation of the federal banking act. Tom G Bushnell, 49, of New Mexico, chose between paying 450 dollars to those defrauded or two years in Leavenworth with probation. Edmond Caldwell of Bovina got 18 months on one mail theft count and a three year suspended sentence on another. George Dickson received 18 months suspended for three years. Elbert Harvey drew 18 months in Leavenworth for transporting a stolen car across a state line.
