Flag deciphered by consulate aids Lily Edwards souvenir mystery
Lt. Scott M. Edwards sent a Nipponese flag home to his wife in Amarillo after serving as a C-47 transport pilot. Local shop owner James Fong helped read part of the inscriptions, directing further deciphering to the Chinese Consulate in Houston. The flag, 39 by 28 inches, bears Japanese autographs and notes a year of high school and five years in the army.
