New York reports Leone Sousa, a 23 year old brunet from Elsinore California, chosen as Miss Fifth Avenue by a stylist committee during the Fifth Avenue Association's 25th anniversary. Sousa designs and sews many of her own outfits and is noted for her tailored suits.
Japanese and Manchukuo troops drive against 30 000 Chinese insurgents in Tungpien near Mukden, approaching 10 miles from Fushun where seven American Catholic missionaries are stationed. A thousand Red Spears attacked by Japanese west of Mukden, with 40 Chinese killed including General Chang Chua Chan.

Pickets arrested yesterday and released returned to duty as six national guard companies cleared highways with tear gas and smoke bombs.

Bill Hill a 27 year old ranch hand from Muleshoe died after drinking poison at Northwest Texas Hospital. He told his foreman Huffman I just drank some of this and waved a poison bottle. Huffman found Hill despondent over illness and sought help as Hill was rushed to the hospital where he died at 10 30 p m. Hill had been in Amarillo recently and was under medical care. His body lies at Griggs Funeral Chapel.
W A Van Norman chief engineer for the Los Angeles water department said 16 men working inside the city aqueduct were injured when they fell down a 200 foot incline of the pipe. They were not seriously hurt. The scene is about 150 miles north of Los Angeles.
Chicago creditors seek personal bankruptcy actions against Samuel Ingall Sr and his brother Martin to expose holdings cash and real estate linked to the Insull Utility Investments Inc proceedings before Federal Judge Walter Lindley. U S officers join Col George H Wark and Deputy Director Alous Pollan in pursuing Ed Dudley in the Eastern Oklahoma hills for the killing of federal prohibition agent Howard B Oursler. Dudley, Republican candidate for constable, fled after the shooting on Stillwell Main Street. Oursler, 59, died. Elmer Ph wounded in the knee.
