Panhandle District Medical Society plans its annual meeting in Pampa with about 150 doctors and specialists from across the country. Dr. C C Donnell of Canyon hosts the event at Schneider Hotel starting 9 am, with Dr Richard Keys of Amarillo as secretary and Dr G T Vineyard as councilor.
In Cincinnati on October 11, the House of Bishops debated a proposal to appoint the presiding bishop as the supreme spiritual and temporal head, giving him full administrative authority as president of the church’s national council, while the bishop is already the spiritual leader.

Baldwin Parker of Cache Oklahoma, son of the famed chief Quanah Parker, sends the polished Indian walking cane to Mason King of Globe News, continuing a family chain of ceremonial use. The relic, seen at Peyote ceremonies, features beadwork and horsehair tassels, reflecting Parker lineage and decades of tribal rites.
Two cars collided on the highway north of Dumas killing James W. Summers 31 of Dumas instantly and injuring T. E. Sasser also of Dumas who was treated at home. The other driver C C Hemsell of Amarillo sustained minor injuries. Summers, a still operator at Shamrock Oil and Gas, left a wife and three children. Funeral plans set for Tuesday.
The Agriculture Department reports Texas farm income for January through August 1937 rose above 1935 and 1936 levels. Total income as of September 1 reached 262.493 million dollars, with August alone at 47.972 million. Crops contributed 114.502 million to eight months, livestock 112.821 million, and benefits 35.080 million.
Sir Oswald Mosley, British fascist leader, was struck by a jagged stone hurled during a clash between leftists and fascists in Liverpool. He was toppled unconscious but not critically injured. Melander of 19 was remanded for a week on felonious wounding charges along with eleven men and two women charged with related offenses.
Columbus detectives voiced doubt about the confession of one of two suspects in the kidnapping and assault of 10 year old Betty Jane Rush. The other man faced questioning but no charges were filed. Betty Jane, injured and shaken, may view the suspects later as fingerprints from a vacant house cellar are compared.
Dr. J W Estes of Abilene Texas, 65, died after being struck by a passerby motorist on Tehachap Ridge Route. He had been en route to visit film actress Mary Brian and her mother, family friends, with his wife and 4 year old son. The crash also injured Mrs Antoinette Lieb of Los Angeles. Estes had attended Hardin Simmons College and saw Hardin Simmons beat Loyola University in Los Angeles last Friday.
Annual past masters night will be held at 7:30 tonight at the Masonic Lodge quarters Seventh and Taylor Street. All Master Masons are urged to attend. The arrangements committee includes D. W Maya Loy Smith and Jim Webb.

Cincinnati reporters describe Anna Hahn a 31 year old German born wife facing first degree murder charges in the deaths of Jacob Wagner 78 and George Gsellman 67. Prosecutors seek the death penalty. Wagner illness linked to poison from a bottle Hahn allegedly obtained during a family quarrel.

Napoleon Saunders, a Negro, remained jailed after failing to post 5000 bond on a murder charge. He was accused in the Sunday slaying of Ed Williams, also a Negro, whose body showed a stabbing wound to the neck. Sheriff Bill Adams said a long-bladed pocket knife was recovered from Saunders at the arrest scene near 108 Harrison Street.
Sam Houston, O. B. Jones of Oklahoma City and other CCC officials discuss camps that offer boys a small wage while learning work skills. They note use of limited classroom equipment and part time schooling near camps to provide education and practical training.
In Amarillo leaders discuss a three year CCC training program dubbed the school of the woods as 45,000 boys in the Eighth Corps Area camps dig, plant trees, terrace land, and learn practical skills. The nationwide effort aims to equip 350,000 boys with nature and earth knowledge to carry on after camp.
