Palmer Given New Lease on Life by Court

Joe Palmer condemned to die for a prison guard murder in Huntsville had his appeal allowed to proceed after the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals denied the state’s motion to dismiss his appeal on grounds of escape. The court will hear Palmer’s appeal on its merits, while Raymond Hamilton’s death sentence appeal was dismissed. Hamilton had escaped from the penitentiary and not been captured.
