A 17 year old Missouri youth, Russell Kelley of Springfield, was arrested near Vega for allegedly stealing a cowboy suit from a farmer near Texola. He was brought to Potter county jail. Prison Fire Kills Seventeen In Ohio State Brick Plant

Cotton prices jump on new estimate near fourteen million bales
The Associated Press reports cotton prices rose about 4.25 per bale after a government crop estimate placed this year’s crop at 13,935,000 bales based on October 1 conditions of 54.4 percent of normal. Trading paused briefly before prices surged 82 to 85 points above prior levels. Washington later cited a 13,993,000 bale estimate with a 51.4 percent October 1 condition and a yield around 149 pounds per acre, down from prior years and the ten year average.
