Clyde Beatty the famed wild animal trainer admits fear of lions and tigers while dining in a downtown cafe. He explains discretion and courage go hand in hand, warning that boldness with liars and tigers shortens a trainer’s career. Beatty, 28, handles 32 lions and tigers in one cage, a record, for film work and public performances.
Hagenbeck-Wallace circus performed on the Tri-State Fairgrounds drawing large crowds Wednesday and Thursday. Featured acts include Clyde Beatty, the Siegrist troupe, Hanneford riders, Earl Red Shipley with 30 clowns, and an open air concert band. Miss Bertha Rowland, a former Amarillo resident, is a highlighted aerialist. Night show starts at 8 o'clock. menagerie opens at 7.
Beatty will begin immediately after the current circus season ends a new film project with Universal is planned with his first book to be adapted.
Reports from Tampico Mexico say Archbishop Leopoldo Ruiz y Flores was expelled as a pernicious foreigner after Mexico's government acted following Pope Pius XI encyclical. A Vatican official stated the move was not alarming and reflects Mexico’s tough stance on church affairs.

A federal grand jury reported to Judge James C. Wilson with 23 indictments against 30 defendants. Seven cases originate outside Amarillo. pleas set for Thursday morning. Indictments include beer and whiskey charges from Lubbock, Eastland, Howard County, Hutchinson, and Potter counties, with most cases to be tried in Amarillo division or transferred.
The Seventh Court of Civil Appeals affirmed a lower court ruling in the John Miller et al. v. State of Texas case. It directs Borger city officials to call and set a recall election as required by the city charter, despite arguments that the writ of mandamus was improperly issued and that judges would preside over their own removal. The decision leaves Borger leaders with no choice but to proceed with the recall election.
In Austin on October 5 Judge W F Robertson ruled he lacked jurisdiction to hear Governor Sterling’s election contest aimed at Mrs Miriam Ferguson’s gubernatorial nomination. The ruling dismisses the petition and temporary injunction against certifying Ferguson as the Democratic nominee, with mandamus sought in the Texas Supreme Court.
The Comptroller of the Currency issued a call for the condition of all national banks as of September 30. The Texas state banking department also issued a call for reports from state banks up to and including September 30.
Two young men unmasked and armed robbed the Gulf Refining Company service station at 3820 Line Avenue late Tuesday night. Attendant J. C. Tucker and his wife were inside. a third accomplice waited in a car outside as the trio escaped with $17.58. Tucker said the assailants appeared to be college boys.
