Wheel Flies Off Truck Kills Expectant Mother Near Pleasanton

Mrs. Claude E. Parks an 18 year old from Red Oaks Oklahoma who was about to become a mother died when a wheel broke from a gravel truck driven by James Holt of San Antonio as it passed her and her husband on a road ten miles from Pleasanton. She was en route to Dallas for hospital admission on October 15 to await the birth.

Rio Grande at new height as it overflows

Flood waters of the Rio Grande spread through Hidalgo County as a record rise rolls downstream. Hidalgo town is totally inundated with villages submerged, farms waterlogged, and treetops and roofs showing. Rail lines on both sides of the river are washed out and the San Juan River shifts its course into the main stream.

Vernon highway crash trial set for today

Trial of M. Ellis of Fort Worth and Will Tharp of Amarillo on negligent homicide charges in a highway accident was scheduled for Oct 3 in Vernon. The case stems from an August 3 crash that killed three Plainview men: Edwin McMath, W. E. Settoon, and A. M. McMillan.

Flood Victims Buried in Mud in Tehachapi Rescue

In Bakersfield California on October 3 volunteers search the Tehachapi area for more victims of a Friday cloud burst. Eight bodies recovered, 13 presumed dead, possibly 20 unidentified itinerants swept away by a 45 foot flood. Mrs Louide Kakk found 19 miles from home as debris filled canyons. Election Contest Heads to Appellate Hearing in Potter County

Potter County election contest set for 9 o clock Saturday in the Seventh Court of Civil Appeals after a district court ruling in favor of Quincy Ford. In August Gibbs beat Ford by one vote 192 to 191 for county commissioner Precinct 4. district court later awarded the contest to Ford 187 to 186. The case has priority over other litigation and must be resolved before the November 8 general election.

Crosby County Murder Trial On At Plainview

Crosby County farmer Joe Hawkins faced trial for the third time in Plainview for murder in the slaying of his father in law M. Walker. Hawkins had a 15 year sentence at the first trial but the verdict was reversed on appeal and a mistrial followed. Evidence showed Walker was killed in a quarrel over a dog fight.

Diks Borger Oct 3 J E Higgins former Borger city commissioner died last night of acute indigestion. Since moving from Corsicana in 1926 he amassed substantial property. Funeral services were arranged for today and he will be buried at Fort Worth.

Man Hurts in Crash at Rock Island Underpass

Gordon Rice of Canyon is in critical condition after a late Sunday crash at the Rock Island underpass on West Sixth Avenue. Teammate Clyde Johnson, also from Canyon, is hospitalized with a brain concussion. Rice suffered multiple injuries including arm fractures and chest injury while Johnson appears to be stabilizing. A bulldog in the car escaped serious harm.

A mistrial was declared in the Davis federal lottery case after defense reports about juror conversations. All Panhandle highways were reported passable Monday as sun and rising temperatures dried the region after last week's precipitation. Hawaiians Assailant Case Probed by Gov Judd in Daylong Conference

Governor Lawrence M. Judd of Hawaii and Honolulu prosecutor John C. Kelley met today with private detectives conducting the Massie assault inquiry. A statement was expected Tuesday as officials discussed the case involving four Hawaiians accused of attacking Mrs. Thomas H. Massie at Ala Moana last year.
