The Council of Churches led by Mrs Henry Cusick appeals for old clothes for European sufferers. City groups and schools participate by collecting worn garments and even minor repairs. Donations welcome at the Polk Street bus between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. rags also needed for armed forces.

Amarillo Hosts Regional Aviation Conference Reservations Open

Amarillo residents can now reserve tickets for the regional aviation conference on December 7 and 8. Tickets cost six dollars and include registration, two luncheons and a banquet. Rex Baxter of the Chamber of Commerce urges strong local turnout as national aviation authorities and attendees from six states are expected. The Chamber committee led by Herb Budke met to promote reservations.

Soldiers to Pair Off for Bridge Tournament

Civilians and soldiers will join in the first community contract bridge tournament at the Auditorium with weekly classes for novices and beginners and a class for Culbertson enthusiasts. Private Leonard, a National Master with Amarillo Field, will conduct play at 7:30 PM with trophies awarded weekly and larger prizes as the season progresses.

Christmas Seal Sale at Amarillo Air Field Booths

Christmas seal booths are set up at the Amarillo Air Field for today’s sale. Mrs. Lawrence Hagg, chair of the Potter County Tuberculosis Association, notes the sale has run over a week with good response. The sale funds the association’s prevention and cure program and education efforts about combating tuberculosis, which ranks first among deaths for youth.

ODT Schedules Free 50-Minute Film On Truck Industry

ODT presents a free 50 minute technicolor sound film titled Teamwork Will Pay focusing on maintenance issues in the motor transportation sector including farm truck owners. The screening Friday at 7 30 pm in Fisk Building Room 419 is run by the Automotive Maintenance Advisory committee to show collaborative solutions among management drivers and mechanics. Nettles F. Amarillo city jail doors stand open for the first time in seven months. Police desk sergeant J A Kirkman says the jail is empty this morning and those jailed last night paid fines totaling 90 dollars.

Amarillo dog Buttons meets Postman Pete Easley in daily mail rounds. In Hutchinson Kansas, a rival canine Tiny the postman’s helper is described as energetic but not brains. Tiny chases cars and has been hit on route at least five times. He stays home during blizzards or extreme cold and waits at the bus stop on Sundays when the route is missed.

Jack Pittman Coming Home

Lt. Jack Pittman Jr has finished combat duty in the South Pacific and is awaiting return to the United States. He writes his parents Mr and Mrs Jack Pittman of 1008 West Twentieth Avenue that he has served three combat tours and is now an ace pilot with the Fighting Falcon Squadron which has downed 74 Zeroes and dive bombers with only two ships lost. He says he will come back in as good condition as when he went in.

Armed Bandits Rob Amarrillo Grocery Store

Two armed men robbed the J. W. Jolly Grocery at 611 East Third Avenue taking over 230 dollars from two of three white men. Police have no trace of the robbers. Earlier, Fletcher Cox was forced to surrender 11 dollars and a suitcase contents in a separate attack at 500 Grant Street.

Elks Initiate Largest Amarillo Class Since Era

Prosty Hamrick, longtime county auditor and current member of the industrial accident board in Austin, revisited Amarillo to speak to the Panhandle A. & M. Club at the Capitol Hotel. He shared a tale of a friend who returned to Austin after flying 53 missions in the Mediterranean and who sought his car for a date.
