Airplane windshields and design boost 1934 speeds
Modern Mercury’s windshields and aerodynamics innovations push air speeds higher. Changes include sloped windshields, small shape tweaks, horned radio masts, retractable landing gear, and streamlined coverings. Engine positioning, turtle-like heads, fillets smoothing angles, and filleted wing joins reduce drag. Adjustable pitch propellers and potential automatic variants promise extra gains. Wing tip taper and size-changing wings may further raise performance.
