B-36 Falls and Downed Crew Near Cleburne

A six engined B-36 superbomber crashed in timberland north of Cleburne during a routine training flight. Sixteen aboard. at least two dead, most crew parachuted to safety. Fire and explosions hindered rescue as witnesses noted engines faltering and the craft losing altitude.

Missing DC-3 bound for Billings reported near Yellowstone

A New Tribes Mission DC-3 on the first leg from Chico to Billings vanished after a sighting near Mount Moran. The resort owner observed a burning fuselage in flames high on the mountain as Civil Air Patrol and locals searched the area. Passengers included two young mothers with children. Dr. Paul W. Flemings led the mission. The plane was last radioed near Idaho Falls at 2 48 PM CST yesterday, about 50 miles west of the search area. It was due in Billings at 5 30 PM.
