Court verdict gives Thomas new sentence
Five years in prison was the verdict of a jury in the assault with intent to murder trial of A M Thomas, Tuesday afternoon on evidence that he had attacked Homer Hart, Amarillo leather worker, with a knife on June 24. The first trial here resulted in a two year term but a new trial was granted. The state contended that the Thomas home already had been broken up before the alleged relations occurred between Hart and Mrs. Thomas. Hart denied any such relation but Mrs. Thomas admitted such on the witness stand. Thomas pleaded that he attacked Hart in defense of his home. Bill Blackburn was on the stand at noon Wednesday in his trial for felony theft by bailee after a complaint was signed by a negress rooming house operator who alleged part of the contents of trunks were removed while Blackburn, a transfer man, held them for storage.
