Amarillo forecast calls for fair conditions tonight and Saturday. West Texas remains fair with frost in the southern portion tonight. Saturday also fair. A local editorial questions Amarillo’s progress in raising 60 000 for the Community Chest. After four days the total is about 25 000 while Wichita Falls raised 75 000 in the same period. The piece urges residents to donate promptly to aid hungry families as winter approaches.
Four men were arrested as Borger and Amarillo police investigated a post office robbery. Postmaster Harold Rothchild said the loot was about three to four thousand dollars in cash money orders and cancelled stamps. A robber guarded Rothchild's wife and his nephew Mannie Brumbach during the hold up.
Prime Minister MacDonald told the Indian round table conference that Britain would not back away from pledges toward a responsible Indian government. He cited pre 1917 Montagu Chelmsford declarations promising self governing institutions. Delegates awaited a clearer line as extremist members voiced disappointment.
Frances McGann, 25, remains in the last stage of a grim life battle at St Luke's hospital Chicago. For 70 days a mechanical respirator kept her alive after paralysis from infantile paralysis. Doctors say she can live without the respirator but fear of breathing may persist.
W. T. Helvey, 85, traveling salesman for Rigney Ferguson in Lubbock, vanished November 10 after telephoning his wife. Last seen at a Magnolia service station in Lubbock. his truck was found there. Helvey suffered amnesia since a flu illness and is described as six feet tall, 160 pounds, blue eyes, bald, wearing a gray coat and brown overcoat. Police and papers urged help.
On the fourth day of the Amarillo chest drive for sixty thousand dollars directors fear it will fall short. Mrs Anna Taylor reports about twenty two thousand in hand with tabulations within three thousand of final figures. If workers have raised twenty five thousand by two this afternoon the drive may still lag behind last year. Fred DeCoster, campaign president, praises donations from salaried city workers as he and aides express elation. See chest fund page two.
A severe early season blizzard sweeps the Rocky Mountain region. In Trinidad Colorado more than an inch of new snow falls atop a 32 inch base as highways close and seven foot drifts rise downtown. Between Denver and Santa Fe freight and passenger traffic grind to a halt and rescue crews work amid high drifts and stranded trains.
G W Whitehead of Amarillo survived over 20 hours exposed when a car stalled by a New Mexico snow near Clayton. Driver Guy Miner from Des Moines died frozen a mile away. Miner was a druggist. Whitehead had lived in Amarillo six years with son Jim at 723 North Garfield. He was en route to Des Moines to see his daughter. Whitehead reportedly taken to Des Moines.
An 86 hour blizzard trapped about 200 persons on trains and left many cars stranded. Authorities report heavy snow and cold exposure with 32 inch snowfall recorded by the weather bureau at Trini.
Texas oil operators from across the state convene in Austin for two sessions ahead of a Texas railroad commission hearing. Aimumated quotas foresee a 60 day proration with a state maximum near 709000 barrels daily, based on Donoghue estimates, down from 718000.
Panhandle high school and junior college students may enter the Simmons-West Texas game at Butler Field tomorrow afternoon for 50 cents. Tri-State Fair president Wilbur C. Hawk says regular tickets are selling quickly but ample student seating is available. Tickets at the gate or City Drug Store No 1.
Thirteen pints of whisky stolen from Maxor Drug No 1 at 500 West Sixteenth Avenue. Burglars also tried to force Kenyon Grain & Seed Co at 1616 North Fillmore Street. Major Drug Co on Virginia Street was found broken into with a safe removed to a car. Police report approx $200 liquor value. physicians prescription price cited at $4 a pint.
Lula I. Dublin, insurance statistician, told the White House Child Protection conference that the home is the most hazardous place in the world. She urged safety engineers for homes and industry, citing collapsible steps, unstable chairs, improvised tools, gas and fire risks, and predicted 100000 accidental deaths in 1930 with 23000 in homes. She blamed autos for much of public-place risk and called for penalties for speed selling.
Eminent violinist Fritz Kreisler is due in Amarillo this afternoon to lay the cornerstone of the Amarillo College of Music and perform a concert at the Municipal Auditorium at 8:30 pm. Emil F Myers sponsors expect Kreisler to arrive early. tickets are sold at Eleventh and Polk until 6:30 pm and at the box office tonight. A dedication ceremony precedes the concert with remarks by Mayor Ernest O Thompson.
Herbert Stanley, charged with the torch murder of Roy Hawthorne whose body was found near Lake Worth last July, will be returned to Van Buren Arkansas for the trial of Hugh D Hop Toe Butler there November 25 on charges of robbing an Alma Arkansas bank.
In Texas, Tarrant County officials press the State Highway Commission to require local labor on county projects as drought area rules may be extended nationwide. State officials note contracts in drought areas already favor local workers due to cost and availability, with November 29 bids tied to drought county plans. A Crabbe Act tweak in Ohio would allow sale of light wine and beer, per C. C. Crabbe.
R M Birdwell, 28, surrendered to Borger police after a shooting that killed Charles Starr, 41, near Deal. Starr, superintendent at a construction camp, was shot twice in the head as an auto fled. Birdwell, a welding foreman for the same company, faces murder charges and an examining trial is set for Saturday.
District Attorney William McGraw will fly to Austin next Wednesday to argue the John W. Brady murder appeal before the court of criminal appeals. He expects to return to Dallas the same day.
In Barcelona on November 21 a man was killed and four injured as rioting erupted between striking workers police and strikebreakers.

In Long Beach California a warrant was issued for Richard C. Frost a naval petty officer on assault with intent to commit great bodily harm. He allegedly rode with his sons aged 10 7 and 5 to a muddy lot beat them with a plane part. Freddy is unconscious with brain concussion.
