Dees Indicted On Murder Charge

John Dees a local realtor surrendered at noon today on a grand jury indictment charging him with murder in the slaying of Finis Brown a mechanic shortly before noon October 29. Dees was released on twelve thousand five hundred dollars bond with four sureties. The shooting occurred in Dees real estate office in the Fuqua building in the presence of John Dees Jr and Loyie Cannon 24 nephew of the accused slayer. Dees said he fired in self defense after Brown had made threats.

Eastland Texas reports Marshall Ratliff the convicted bank robber hanged by a mob prompting a district court commission to convene at 2 p m to select a grand jury. Jailer Tom Jones who Ratliff shot during his failed jail break died at Eastland hospital.

Lynching of Ratliff Played Death Song for Condemned

Marshal Ratliff, taken from Eastland county jail, was lynched last night in Huntsville. He gave a requiem for inmates condemned to the electric chair, using a battered phonograph to play When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder as each death march moved toward the green door. He had been moved to Eastland recently for a sanity hearing.
