In Beaumont on November 17 a tent fire killed Elizabeth Manning, 14, and Frances Manning, 10, while their mother was severely burned trying to rescue them. The family, from Morgan City Louisiana, slept in a semi house tent with wooden floors and walls when the blaze began around midnight.
In Kansas City on November 17, bandits abducted Gustav Ekgegel treasurer of the Frank L. Newton theaters and fled with 15000 dollars intended for a bank. Ekgegel was dumped from the robbers car several blocks away from the scene.
Vernon Texas November 17 Clifton Emmett twenty son of P M Emmett prominent farmer near Deans Wilbarger county was found shot to death in the front yard of his father's home. Officers found a note stating he was in trouble which would come out later. A small pistol was used.
Sedalia Mo Nov 17 Engineer George Diemert of St Louis was killed instantly at Syracuse 22 miles east of Sedalia when eastbound Missouri Pacific Sunflower special No 20 crashed into westbound passenger train No 13 on the main line. A baggageman was injured. It was reported No 12 crew expected No 20 to pull onto a siding but it came on the main line too late to avoid collision.
New York November 17 trading in stocks showed renewed vigor around noon. More than thirty issues rose to new peak prices for the year with gains from 1 to nearly 4 points. Total two hour sales surpassed 800000 shares, compared with over a million during last week’s peak boom.

Roger Stewart, 18, Vinton high school quarterback, died from fractured vertebrae suffered in a Friday night game at Anamosa after attempting to block a runner. The injury occurred during the second half of the contest.
