In Houston a mass meeting at the cotton exchange urged 600 workers to press national legislators for relief from the cotton crisis. Speakers including Harvey Robertson and Walter Parker linked the plight to federal policy and sought letters and a possible conference with President Roosevelt.

President Roosevelt, in Harrodsburg Kentucky, urged a national push toward pioneering to meet a shifting world. Speaking on ground honoring early patriots and amid thousands of Kentuckians, he tied survival to cultivating a pioneering spirit while dedicating a memorial to George Rogers Clark before touring the Tennessee Valley for three days to assess progress.
Alice Pleasance Liddell, the real inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, died in Westerham, England, at age 82. Born May 4, 1852, she later attended Carroll centenary events in New York and lived a quiet retirement.
