Ralph James, 33, a construction laborer, is held as the confessed slayer of Alice Toots Collier, 15, whose body was found wedged in a tree fork on Oct 23 after she had been missing nearly three months. Authorities said James admitted the crime after custody.

C Bailey Hankins former minister and Wayland College graduate faces district court in the week of November 17 for forgery of a $200 check. Held in Potter county jail since late September he is expected to plead guilty for a suspended sentence. A family caravan from Oklahoma en route to Harrison, Idaho, suffered a deadly crash on the Whitebird grade near Grangeville. Mary Murdock 75 and Evelyn Wallace 2 died instantly. Dennis Wallace 40 died later. Dennis and the Wallaces plus others were injured. The unlit car edged off a shoulder and plunged 450 feet, halted by a large boulder.
