Snow squalls and freezing weather compound hardship in flood zones across New England. Virgil Brooks, 31, died instantly when a light car overturned on a country road near Childress Sunday morning. Driver Lindop suffered a broken hip and was thrown from the vehicle, crawling to a farmhouse. Two farmers and their wives recovered Brooks' body from beneath the car.
A McLean general merchandise store reported a large theft last night with overcoats, dress shirts, ties, and other goods stolen. Police say multiple Panhandle stores report similar stock thefts with the best material taken.
George Remus former bootleg king pressed to free himself from a first degree murder charge in his wife Imogene's slaying on October 6. Remus and attorney Charles H. Elston appeared before Judge Chester R. Shook as prosecutors contested evidence from depositions in eight cities.
Lieutenant Alford J. Williams U S N says he flew 222.6 mph in the first test of a converted racing ship at Mitchell Field. With a 40 mph tailwind he roared over the three kilometer course at dusk, claiming the fastest human speed yet and planning an official record attempt later that week.
Seven hundred Monarchist Russians stormed the Soviet consulate in Shanghai, stoning windows and tearing down the red flag. Seven men were injured before authorities dispersed the mob.
Amarillo reports the first Christmas window at Russell and Cockrell with Santa Claus presiding over gifts and books. The town buzzes about Christmas as children vow to be good. a 1927 Santa letter arrives at the North Pole, promising early selection.

Erie, Pa. Nov. 7 Colonel W. K. Easterwood Jr. the Dallas chicle king announced he has increased his offer from 25000 to 50000 for an airplane flight from Dallas to Hong Kong China. Easterwood was elected a division vice commander of the Marine Corps league and Major General J. A. Lejeune was named commander of the Marine Corps.
United States divorce filings increased 8.1 percent in 1926 while marriages grew 1.2 percent. The rate stood at 1.54 divorces per 1000 people, with Florida and California showing notable increases, and Nevada bucking the trend with fewer divorces as marriages jumped. District of Columbia fell 39.2 percent.
Lorena Trickey known as the rodeo queen stood in a Lakeview Oregon courtroom as the murder trial opened. Prosecutor Charles Combs planned to prove she stabbed J P Harris in jealous rage with premeditation while Trickey’s attorney Sam A Jetmore prepared to argue self defense and that Trickey will testify.
Col Harve Haines of the Board of City Development urged Kiwanis to educate residents to invest in industries. He said Amarillo’s small population limits its ability to attract larger plants and that expanding the trade area will create more investment and manufacturing opportunities.
The grand jury for the November term of the district court was to convene this afternoon but jury summons led to excuses and absences lowering the total below legal required. The court adjourned to 1 30 to allow time for additional jurors to be summoned.
Jack Whitehead, third Matt Kimes gang member tried for the murder of Police Chief W J McAnally in the Beggs bank robbery last May, was found guilty as an accomplice. A district court jury recommended life imprisonment after about 20 hours of deliberation.
Governor William H. Adams announced that a successor to the late state treasurer Harry J. Mullnix will be named on Wednesday in Denver Colorado.

Lamb is called before the grand jury as Burns detectives testify about shadowing jurors and a car linked to Lamb’s name. District Attorney Gordon dissents, while W. Sherman Burns explains the agency’s role in guarding jurors.
The bribery trial of FV A. Dale of Bonham, a former state legislator, was continued in district court in Austin until January 9 by agreement between counsel.
Virginia Lee Corbin 17 once a child star and her mother face a dramatic dispute over parties and money. Virginia signed a complaint causing Mrs L E Corbin to be held in the psycho pathic ward for examination after a weekend of quarrels and a suicide attempt by the mother. Doctors expect recovery for Mrs Corbin while Virginia presses the case further.
