United Press reports that control of Congress is in doubt with Republicans at best able to claim a nominal House and Senate majority. Democrats can count on insurgent Republican votes to block or pass majorities, with Senate and House tallies showing Republicans 47 to Democrats 46 and 21 212 respectively, plus a Farmer-Labor and several doubtful districts.

He aims to set a west to east transcontinental record and will refuel at English Field as officials await reports.
Two young bandits used a stolen Oldsmobile to raid the Tenth Street Drug Store and City Drug No 2 near West Tenth Avenue and West Sixteenth Avenue. They obtained more than $80 in five minutes around 10 20 PM. The car was found abandoned at The Nat dance pavilion in San Jacinto. One bandit, about 22, short and 140 pounds, description given by Loren Baker and Thompson.
Amarillo and vicinity forecast fair and warmer tonight and Friday with partly cloudy skies in West Texas. Scotland Yard probes a man’s claim of overhearing three men plotting to wreck the R-101 dirigible before its fatal October flight near Beauvais France. No additional plot details were released.
An official search for Dr. E W Province is in progress in Dallas with Burleson College and William Gaylor. Province, last seen leaving Dallas after a visit to a friend, failed to appear for scheduled meetings and his wife alerted police. He has held multiple college leadership and business roles in Texas and New Mexico.
Argyle Guyton alias Jimmie O Talley, 25, Texas desperado, after escaping Huntsville and Clemons prisons, stages daylight robbery at R S McClendon grocery in Amarillo, then hijacking theft and kidnapping in a single day. Police report a long criminal career with plans suggesting further flight toward Amarillo.
Three female inmates fled the Kentucky State Reformatory in Frankfort while hospital patients. Otis Grammar serving life for murder from Harlan County, Grace Browder of Daviess County with 20 years for bank robbery, and Alms Williams the Covington resident with a 10 year sentence for holdups escaped by breaking a hospital lock, crafting a rope from warp, and using a plank to scale the wall.
N G Frosty Hamrick reported to the Texas Railroad Commission hearing that consolidating the two night trains on the Fort Worth and Denver between Amarillo and Dallas would put about 25 trainmen out of work. Denver officials claim a survey shows only six Amarillo workers would lose jobs, with others affected in Childress Wichita Falls and Fort Worth. The Commission gave 10 days for briefs before ruling on the merger proposal to run one overnight train each way.
A large quantity of bootleg whiskey labeled Hill and Hill was emptied into the sewer through a manhole near the library building on the courthouse square today. The liquor was destroyed to free storage space at the jail.

Sterling leads Talbot by about four and a half to one for governor while Harry Wurzbach holds the sole Republican House seat. Amendments run ahead by substantial margins as totals roll in from Hidalgo County and 186 of 25 counties. A separate report notes the freighter Golden Cross running aground off Point Reyes with 45 crew aboard.
Tom Mix, film cowboy, rode dangerous stunts with a shoulder shattered and wired together for years. Dr. R Nichol Smith disclosed he would remove the wires by operation soon. Mix has been in Hollywood Hospital since last Saturday for arthritis, mainly in the back, and his condition has gradually improved.
Baptist laymen from Texas plan annual sessions here before the General Texas Convention opening Wednesday. An expected turnout of 2,500 will attend laymen’s sessions with a program of sermons and talks on church life and leadership across several Texas cities.
Russian delegate Maxim Litvinoff accused the League of Nations disarmament commission of failing to pursue genuine disarmament. He denounced France and other powers demanding security before disarmament and urged replacing limits with a call for disarmament. The exchange caused a disruption as copies of his English remarks were distributed after the meeting. The American delegation remained silent during the opening session.
