Boy Flier Stanley Boyton Starts Mesa to Amarillo Flight

Stanley Boyton an 18 year old Lexington Massachusetts student aviator began a speed flight from Mesa Arizona toward Amarillo Texas after a 24 hour delay. He left Phoenix yesterday and earlier flew from Casa Grande to Mesa visiting friends. He aims to set a west to east transcontinental record and will refuel at English Field as officials await reports.

Bandits Use Stolen Car In Quick Drug Store Hold Up

Two young bandits used a stolen Oldsmobile to raid the Tenth Street Drug Store and City Drug No 2 near West Tenth Avenue and West Sixteenth Avenue. They obtained more than $80 in five minutes around 10 20 PM. The car was found abandoned at The Nat dance pavilion in San Jacinto. One bandit, about 22, short and 140 pounds, description given by Loren Baker and Thompson.

Search Under Way for Dr. E W Province in Texas

An official search for Dr. E W Province is in progress in Dallas with Burleson College and William Gaylor. Three Women Convicts Escape from Kentucky Reformatory

Three female inmates fled the Kentucky State Reformatory in Frankfort while hospital patients. Otis Grammar serving life for murder from Harlan County, Grace Browder of Daviess County with 20 years for bank robbery, and Alms Williams the Covington resident with a 10 year sentence for holdups escaped by breaking a hospital lock, crafting a rope from warp, and using a plank to scale the wall.

Train Merger Could Cost 25 Jobs Between Amarillo and Dallas

N G Frosty Hamrick reported to the Texas Railroad Commission hearing that consolidating the two night trains on the Fort Worth and Denver between Amarillo and Dallas would put about 25 trainmen out of work. Denver officials claim a survey shows only six Amarillo workers would lose jobs, with others affected in Childress Wichita Falls and Fort Worth. The Commission gave 10 days for briefs before ruling on the merger proposal to run one overnight train each way.

Hill and Hill Liquor Seized Dumped Into Sewer Near Library

A large quantity of bootleg whiskey labeled Hill and Hill was emptied into the sewer through a manhole near the library building on the courthouse square today. The liquor was destroyed to free storage space at the jail.

Little change in Texas vote from late returns

Tardy Texas returns show Democratic wins in state offices and constitutional amendments. Sterling leads Talbot by about four and a half to one for governor while Harry Wurzbach holds the sole Republican House seat. Amendments run ahead by substantial margins as totals roll in from Hidalgo County and 186 of 25 counties. A separate report notes the freighter Golden Cross running aground off Point Reyes with 45 crew aboard.

Tom Mix Performs Stunts With Shattered Shoulder

Tom Mix, film cowboy, rode dangerous stunts with a shoulder shattered and wired together for years. Dr. R Nichol Smith disclosed he would remove the wires by operation soon. Mix has been in Hollywood Hospital since last Saturday for arthritis, mainly in the back, and his condition has gradually improved.

Baptist Laymen To Meet Sunday

Litvinov Attacks League Disarmament Commission in Geneva

Russian delegate Maxim Litvinoff accused the League of Nations disarmament commission of failing to pursue genuine disarmament. He denounced France and other powers demanding security before disarmament and urged replacing limits with a call for disarmament. The exchange caused a disruption as copies of his English remarks were distributed after the meeting. The American delegation remained silent during the opening session.
