Earl Bailey Opens New Used Car Lot
Earl Bailey opens a used car lot at 599 Fillmore across from the courthouse. The two story house on the property was partly removed and converted into an office. Bailey has worked in the used car business with John Allen at Third and Fillmore and formerly partnered with Bill Linbeck at the Gulf station on Sixth and Fillmore. Maternal deaths in childbirth reached a record low of 44 per 1 000 live births in the United States in 1946.

English Field Cost Reports Sent to CAA for Field Transfer
Dallas city manager N. V. Moss said cost reports for English Field maintenance will be sent to the Civil Aeronautics Administration within about 20 days. Fire Destroys Home In Pleasant Valley
A three room house at Cactus and Bluebonnett in Pleasant Valley was destroyed by fire this morning. The house belonged to Jack Bryan. Firemen were unable to fight the fire effectively because water was not available. The house is beyond city water mains. Two booster trucks carrying tanks of water were used to wet down surrounding property to prevent spread of the fire.

Tax Valuations Over Estimate in City Roll
City tax assessor Perry Burks announced valuations on the tax roll total $87,118,400, higher than October estimates. At a rate of $1.30 per $100, city taxes for the year would amount to $1,132,513.20. Personal property accounts for $12,108,920 and real property $61,007,480 of the roll with the remainder on rendered, railroad, back, and unrendered rolls.
