Amarillo police announced the arrest of a suspect and recovery of 75 cartons of cigarettes from four brands and a block of tobacco, stolen from a salesman’s truck on Oct 28. The theft was reported by L. C. Elliott of 1923 Polk Street Apartment 8 on Oct 29. The suspect was to be transferred to the county jail.
President Roosevelt returns from Hyde Park to confer with legislative leaders on price control and neutrality act revision. He plans to discuss a House banking committee bill critics say undermines price controls by delaying wage ceilings and banning top farm price limits until general 1919 1920 levels are reached.
The body of a 20 year old Postal Telegraph operator Miss Wanda Wheatley was found beaten to death in lonely woods near Saginaw Michigan. The victim had been missing since Monday and was discovered by hunter Alex la Drigue. Sheriff Hugo Muehlenbeck said it was not yet clear if a crime of sexual assault occurred.

DANVILLE Illinois October 1 Original investment of 40 dollars and annual upkeep of one dollar yield a constant water supply for 40 years at the Thomas White farm eight miles north. A water ram powered by water from a 40 foot artesian well pumps a gallon a minute to 90 feet up and 1,200 feet away, enough for reeds and stock. ten gallons enter the ram while nine fuel it, rubber valve costs arise every five years, and the artesian source prevents freezing in winter.
Teen and Corinne Simms pleaded guilty in county court to theft. The man received six months in jail plus court costs, while the woman was sentenced to one day in jail and a $200 fine. Police raided their residence, and the man was arrested then as the woman fled in a nightie and was later captured in Houston.
Rex, the 10 year old mascot of the Service company, 10th Infantry, will accompany about 20 000 Fort Custer soldiers to Arkansas for maneuvers. A veteran of seven army years the German police dog has traveled an estimated 25 000 miles with the army and is a trusted companion to thousands of soldiers. He has appeared at maneuvers in Fort Knox and other southern states and often sleeps in a tent beside a truck amid the army mobilization preparations.
Amarillo Texas Defense Guard unit reports for weekly drill tonight. Members plan to join American Legion memorial services and Armistice Day parade. Discussion includes an Elks sponsored dance for guardsmen. Captain A Petersen notes Borger unit may march with Amarillo in the parade.

Sheriff Bill Adams said his office and the county attorney will map plans to curb a flood of worthless checks. He will seek merchant cooperation to verify checks before cashing and may call mass meetings. An incident involved a man attempting to cash a $25 payroll check with a forged endorsement.
