In Mackegon Michigan on November 2 police and secret service identified the slain bandit as Dutch Anderson, ally of Gerald Chapman, from fingerprints and Bertillon measures. Hammond, a city detective, died after a close range shootout in an alley near the city hall while restraining Anderson who had counterfeit $20 bills on his person.
George W Dutch Anderson also known as Dutch bandit is wanted in connection with the murder of Mr and Mrs Hance near Muncie Indiana The Hances were shot after a roadside confrontation while Mr Hance testified against Gerald Chapman in a separate murder case The pursuit occurred as Anderson was said to be involved with Chapman and associates in other crimes
Dawson county agent C T Watson thanks Harmon Benton and fair association officers for courtesy and good treatment shown to the Lamesa boys club judging team at the Tri State exposition. Watson’s team won first prize.
Forecast calls for tonight and Tuesday to be fair and warmer. Temperature extremes from a year ago were 79 and 47, with today's hours showing gradual warming from 38 at 7 am to 65 at 3 pm.
A Globe reporter in Amarillo fails to obtain a timely interview with Alberto J Pant a high Mexican government official at 5 30 am on the Santa Fe train The story notes Pant or Senor Paul previously drew attention after a dispute with immigration authorities over an actress considered a maid attached to his party The reporter hints the interview attempt was partly offset by his mother in law departing on the same train leaving the journalist noting the visit was not a total failure.
The Amarillo Central Presbyterian church announced a $15,000 gift for a minister’s manse to accompany a $200,000 building program. Mrs. J. D. Shuford donated the funds in three installments with conditions including a memorial bronze tablet and a replacement clause if the property or church uses change. The gift boosts the campaign as plans move toward a 1926 opening.
A passenger train No 81 struck a leader school bus at a grade crossing near Nahunta Georgia killing seven and injuring about twenty five children. The bus driver Roy Strickland 18 was seriously hurt. Names of dead include Pearl Strickland 16 Audrey May Johns 14 Dorris Herrin 14 May Thornton 12 and siblings Lewis 10 and 12. The accident occurred when a freight train blocked view of the crossing and a lookout child was killed.
Bruce Sullivan announces Sullivan Refineries Inc now operates the Big Four Refinery at Panhandle. The plant will use 1000 barrels daily initially, with plans to reach 2000 barrels per day soon as improvements are added. The company runs 600 barrel Dayton New Mexico refinery and 90 barrel Clovis plant. Henry Wilkinson of Hereford bank is company president.
The Community Chest board will meet at 4 pm to discuss plans for the 1926 drive. Last year’s campaign raised 22000 and nearly every penny was collected. Expected changes include memorials at the Shuford Memorial Manse and potential additions like organ and chimes.
John B. Gilvin and O. V. Vernon lead a skeptic’s trip sponsored by the Board of City Development and the Amarillo Real Estate board to the Panhandle oil fields. Lubbock November 2 The jury in the Letsinger v Panhandle and Santa Fe rail road suit over the death of his wife and baby at a grade crossing returned a verdict favoring the defendant. The plaintiff sought $60 000 in damages.
Bill Newberry has sold 500 head of steer yearlings to Browder Brothers of Memphis at 45 dollars per head. The cattle have grazed on pastures southwest of Hereford and are to be delivered immediately.
Late last night offices in the Ray Bynum building at Sixth and Polk were entered by youths. A typewriter from the 131st Field Artillery Medical detachment and a clock from Dr. J. B. Landers were taken. stamps and tobacco from W. W. Lynch and tampered safes were noted. Several other offices were entered with little value stolen. Police chief Clark Gain and patrolman W. R. McDowell expect arrests today.
The Bogue Manufacturing Company, maker of tire accessories and boots, opens a factory at 206 East Fourth Street with J. E. Bogue as Texas head. The Amarillo plant aims to serve Panhandle and West Texas dealers with Boots and vulcanizing supplies. Four boot types will be featured, including Knit Slip and Super Kant Slip.
W A Martin convicted of murdering Deputy Sheriff R B Parsons of Denton county and sentenced to 9% years was denied a new trial by Judge C A Pippen in Dallas after jurors testified no misconduct occurred. Defense given notice of appeal. Martin was formally sentenced. The Coffee Shop at the Amarillo Hotel is Famous For Food.
Col William Mitchell asked the court to summon Secretaries Davis and Wilbur and other officials as witnesses in his court martial over air service conduct. The move aimed to push broader issues in the air controversy, though the court’s willingness to admit such subpoenas is uncertain. The prosecution rested after calling A W Yeager, who received Mitchells San Antonio statement outlining the charges.
Aubrey Sharp is again in custody of officers. Sheriff Wiley Pollard held him last night on advice from Sheriff McNeal of Harden County New Mexico. Bondsmen sought removal from the bond posted after his appeal to the New Mexico supreme court following his hijacking conviction and ten year sentence. The sheriff transported Sharp to Mosquero for detention pending the higher court’s decision.
