President Hoover, one week before the election, resumes campaign for re election returning to Washington then launching another westward swing. The plan is to end the tour in California with a final push to secure votes as his special train arrives from New York.
A notice at the Oyston plant urges employees to back President Hoover in the November election. Dated October 26, it blames tariff policies under Franklin D. Roosevelt and warns of plant closures and layoffs if the Hoover administration is not retained. The firm is part of Stauffer Chemical Company of California.
President Hoover told a Madison Square Garden audience of 21,000 that Democratic proposals would break down government and called the New Deal a threat to the American system. He traveled from union station to the White House after a long day, with plans for further stops in Springfield, St. Louis, and possibly Minneapolis, Denver, or Salt Lake City.

Amarilloans can board a ship at breakfast time and reach Gotham for a fast theater as revised TWA schedules claim the fastest coast to coast service in the United States. The new timetable, starting Saturday, cuts eastbound flying times by 14 hours with through planes stopping for meals at English Field. The westbound route remains unchanged.
Oklahoma and Texas dominate the public agenda days before the national vote as Governor Miriam Ferguson faces a strong bid for a second term in Texas. The Ferguson faction, Bullington and Armstrong contend with Roosevelt Garner supporters, while dissident Democrats court cross tickets and contest votes amid a volatile state political landscape.

Governor Roosevelt campaigns through southern New England with 50 000 spectators in Providence and 15 000 at Boston arena. He predicts a Democratic sweep, attacks Republican leaders and defense of unemployment relief, pledging a three point plan and calling out fear mongering.
W A L Hannington communist organizer of the Hunger march in London was arrested on charges of inciting mutiny among police and held at Bow Street. Detectives seized office records as rioting by thousands of unemployed continued in Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square last week. A second man was arrested for distributing seditious literature as leaders vow to proceed with a House of Commons protest.
Austin reports State Treasurer Charles Lockhart called in for payment state general revenue warrants totaling $964,000. The action leaves about 1,500 warrants outstanding issued before September 1, the start of the new fiscal year. Confederate pension warrants not yet discounted are honored up to September issues, with discounted pension warrants including those from November 1931.
Forecast for Amarillo and vicinity calls for fair skies and warmer conditions tonight and Wednesday partly cloudy. West Texas expects fair weather, warmer tonight and Wednesday, with the southeast portion also partly cloudy. New Mexico forecasts fair tonight and Wednesday with slight warmth, especially in extreme north and east. Temperatures today reach 35 to 59 degrees by 1 PM.
Nov. 1 Big Spring Texas K O Wright freed on bonds totaling 6000 on two murder and two negligent homicide charges after two girls walking home from a dance hall were struck by his car. Rena Nabors 17 died at a hospital Fannie 18 found dead in a ditch hours later. Wright said another car’s lights blinded him and he didn’t see the pedestrians. He claimed he picked up Nabors and headed toward the hospital. The incident occurred three blocks from the dance hall. the girls were walking home alone.
Rev J T McClure of Dallas will become pastor of Polk Street Methodist Church Amarillo replacing Dr Ira F Key who moves to the Texas Conference The appointment was made at the North Texas Conference closing in Gainesville McClure has pastored Grace Church Dallas and earlier served Norman Ardmore New Mexico and California pulpits The Northwest Texas Conference opens next week with transfers set for November 13 and Dr Key’s move to the Texas Conference becomes official J B McClure Amarillo Laundry manager is McClure’s nephew.
SALLISAW Okla Nov 1 Three robbers looted the Sallisaw State Bank of an undetermined sum today taking an employee as they fled Witnesses said two men were Charles Pretty Boy Floyd and George Birdwell both sought bank robbers Deputy Sheriff Bert Cotton said witnesses identified them Floyd formerly lived here The bandits fled toward Fort Smith Ark after releasing their hostage at the edge of Sallisaw Sheriff George Cheek organized a posse and pursued east on US Highway 64 toward Fort Smith The bandits were expected to turn north into Floyds hideaway area Bob Biggs assistant cashier was with them and released at the city edge He also identified Floyd as one of the trio
Dr Benjamin M Primer health unit director warns kisses spread colds and urges avoiding kissing especially with young children. He estimates at least 10000 Amarilloans have colds and notes the after effects can be severe while the cold itself is not.
Italy's prize profile shows Benito Mussolini facing disapproval from the Duce over beauty contests as Signorina Magda Cella leads hundreds of Italian girls in the competition amid the fundraising chest surpassing $17,000.
H. C. Buddy Blanton of Amarillo was released from Lubbock County jail after a grand jury no billed him in the October 15 Lubbock grocery store robbery and store manager Robert Tharp was killed. His mother Nora Blanton, ill with pneumonia, said he had not yet returned to Amarillo but was expected soon. Blanton was exonerated of hijackings at the M System stores after a court of inquiry found he was in Amarillo at the time with 22 witnesses corroborating. He, 21, a former high school football star, had been arrested in Amarillo and later held in Lubbock. The wife was in Hobbs, New Mexico.
The Knights and Ladies of the Red Feather reported 17006.50 in contributions toward the 75000 goal, about 22 percent after less than two days. A 500-strong worker group attended the luncheon as the advance gifts led with 10250, while men gave 2490.40 and women 307.70. Meetings are planned for Tuesday and Wednesday with mayoral and hotel gatherings, plus a rally at Fred Douglas school led by Rt. Rev. A. J. Williams. Leaders remain hopeful the fund will reach its target.
New York dispatch reports Jamaica Bay Broad Channel bungalows on stilts were torn from supports by a high sea. Dozens of residents, including men women and children, fell into the water as fires started in the flimsy colony. Ambulance crews treated about a dozen injured occupants as increasingly dangerous waves toppled more homes and trapped others.
The Texas Railroad Commission raised Yates field daily production from 55000 to 66000 barrels. The order took effect today and remains in force until April 1 unless revised.
In Longview Texas on November 1 a Shell No. 3 Landers well seven miles north of Gladewater exploded and caught fire. Investigators note it resembled a dynamite job though motive remains unknown. The old well produced about 500 barrels originally. The Christmas tree connection blew off and the well flowed at full force as workers fought the blaze with difficulty.
From Austin comes word that Texas officials George H. Sheppard J W McReynolds and C J Howard will travel to Amarillo Thursday for an interstate gasoline tax meeting called by W W Fewell State tax supervisor The aim is a common plan among Texas Colorado New Mexico Kansas and Oklahoma for taxing interstate gasoline shipments Prominent tax officials from these states will attend The plan mirrors the Texas Louisiana arrangement already in force and praised for efficiency The meeting starts at 10 A M at the Hersling hotel
Reno reports 12 of 26 banks closed under Lieut. Gov. Morley Griswold's banking holiday proclamation. Wingfield controlled Wingfield banks with $17 million in deposits did not open. Proclamation cites collapse of livestock prices and grants a two week debt moratorium except taxes as citizens face cash shortages.
