Bridgeport Driver Leads 500 Mile Race at Midpoint
Indianapolis Bulletin reports Bill Holland a 39 year old dirt track racer from Bridgeport Connecticut held a 57 second lead over Mauri Rose at the 400 mile mark of the 31st annual Indianapolis 500. Earlier, Holland led after 250 miles while outspeeding veteran competitors at the speedway.

A 75 year old Amarillo resident, Mrs. John Todd of 1116 Arthur, began digging a storm cellar after a 9 April tornado season scare. The 11 by 5 foot pit, over five feet deep, required moving more than 600 cubic feet of dirt. She plans shelves and a bed for storm refuge and aims to shelter during bad weather.

Eight Nations Join In War Dead Homage
In Paris on May 30, eight European nations joined the United States in paying homage to American soldiers who died in two world wars.
