A brief Amarillo weather and storm summary notes a small twister roared across West Amarillo early today, uprooting limbs and blowing down fences and wires. Rainfall varied by location, with Des Moines NM and Boise City among areas receiving 1.5 inches or more, while many Panhandle stations logged lighter amounts.
Directors of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce backed plans for the city to finance Palo Duro State Park. The recommendation urged the city to issue revenue bearing bonds totaling 295000 dollars to fund the park purchase with S B Whittenburg chairing the Palo Duro Park committee.
Police appeal to parents to curb rock throwing by children that threatens homes and cars. Officers warned fines or arrests may follow if nuisance continues. Incidents include a car bombardment of 608 Belleview, gym windows broken, and a hayride struck during a Sunday outing.

The move aims to aid famine areas abroad and stretch domestic wheat supply by diluting flour with other grains and potato flour as urged by an international food conference.

In Sapulpa Oklahoma the unidentified man’s body was finally buried after an undertaker waited decades for a claimant. Harold Rampp bought the old Buffington funeral parlor and found the corpse which dated to a 1916 death on a railroad right of way. A Christian service was held for the unidentified man with no clues to his identity.
Rev. J Donald Norton, newly appointed pastor of Ellwood Park Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, arrives from Lancaster Texas. He succeeds Dr E B Fincher who retires after 23 years. Norton served as Army chaplain in World War II and studied at Denver General Hospital UT Austin and the Austin Theological Seminary. He is married to Marie Sawyer and they have a daughter Donna. The Norton family will reside at 1607 Taylor.
Austin May 28 The Texas law regulating bread weight remains in effect as G E Hancock assistant chief of weights and measures division notes that neither the governor nor the Department of Agriculture can override a legislative act. He expects Commissioner McDonald to confer with the governor upon return. The department had warned bakers that reducing loaf size violated state law.
Four inmates at Sandstone federal prison on a hunger strike were fed by tubes after a prison physician advised liquid nourishment. The inmates, serving sentences for draft law violations, received forced feeding on the first day of their fast.
Senate Democratic Leader Alben Barkley said administration forces will press to retain the work-or-draft authority in Truman’s emergency strike bill. He warned that a Republican Liberal coalition aiming to kill draft authority will be opposed, following Senator Carter Glass's death and a 24 hour armistice in the Senate battle.
Dorothy Williams reports John L. Lewis meets with Interior Secretary Krug and government officials in Washington for a long series of discussions with reporters present. Lewis avoids statements, hints at lunch, and returns for further talks with union attorneys before leaving.
A. F. Whitney head of the railroad trainmen accuses President Truman of misrepresentation and broken promises over a five day postponement of a strike. Whitney cites brief White House meetings May 14 and 17 and claims the President promised a settlement and even offered a plane to Washington. He says records will be released to prove the promise.
Nationalist papers in Peiping report an agreement signed in Nanking to end the civil war. No official confirmation exists and reports seem doubtful though Sin Min Pao cites sources claiming the deal was signed yesterday and will be announced soon.
The San Jacinto Kiwanis Club received a permit to build a concrete 50 by 125 foot swimming pool at 607 09 Carolina with dressing rooms and concession space. G A Tomlinson filed the permit for 15000 dollars. The Civilian Production Administration approved construction of the pool and nearby recreation center.
James C. Petrillo leader of the AFL Musicians Union announced a strike at radio station WAAF in Chicago after three librarians were fired for refusing to hire three more staff. He warned about possible prosecution under the Sea Bill now seen as the Anti Petrillo Bill. Petrillo defended the action stating it follows legal counsel and opposes the Lea Bill as unconstitutional.
In Rochester New York 48000 AFL and CIO unionists staged a mass strike halting transportation elevators and most business while hotels and restaurants stayed open. Gov Dewey intervened as talks continued on a government mine operation settlement. Ohio nationwide maritime union rejected a 12.50 dollar monthly wage increase heightening labor tensions nationwide.
In Inglewood California a former J C Penney head of men's department Paul Dohanyos shot manager Harry Hammerland and assistant Maurine Ka ee, then was fatally shot by a patrolman after a two minute gun battle that wounded no shoppers or staff.
