Amarillo College to Hold 44 Graduates Tonight

Forty four sophomores will receive degrees at Amarillo College Monday evening at the Municipal Auditorium at 8 o clock. Judge S A L Morgan will deliver the address Elements of Real Success. Diplomas will be conferred by J B Dooley and awards given by President B E Masters. Baccalaureate services are Sunday at the First Christian Church with Dr Roy Snodgrass speaking on The Wisdom of the Good. Class officers are Bill Durham president and Wesley Makeig secretary treasurer. The class roster includes William Durham, Roy Green, Dorothy Miller, and thirty others.

Clive Blackwell Wins In Fire Prevention Contest

Clive Blackwell, an eighth grade pupil at Central Junior High School, earned honorable mention for his Fire Prevention poster in the state contest. His work had earlier won first prize in the citywide contest.

Bishop, Educator, Judge to Speak at Amarillo Commencements

Three speakers set to address Amarillo graduates this week are Most Reverend R. E. Lucey bishop of the Amarillo Catholic diocese Dr W B Bizzell president of the University of Oklahoma and Judge S A L Morgan chairman of the Amarillo Board of Education Bishop Lucey will speak at Price Memorial College and St Marys Academy Dr Bizzell will address the Amarillo High School graduates and Judge Morgan will speak to the Amarillo College sophomores.

Five Amarillo Grads at Oklahoma University June 4

Five Amarilloans will graduate from the University of Oklahoma on June 4 with degrees in arts business interior decorating and science. From Panhandle towns come Higgins Ralph Wassell Pampa Braly Foster Selby Zimmerman Galway and others. Life insurance averages are cited as $23 per person in Italy and about $1,000 in the United States.

Engineering Is Boys Favorite Teaching Girls Follow

Amarillo High School seniors favor engineering in its modern branches including radio mining civil electrical mechanical and aeronautical. Thirty one boys seek more training while legal and medical fields attract about a dozen each. Girls list nursing teaching artistic and secretarial as common paths with two aviators four lawyers and one surgeon. Other interests include interior decorating journalism costume design beauty culture court reporting.

West Texas State Teachers College Graduates Plan Week

Commencement week opens for 85 graduates with Dr. EB M Waits of Texas Christian University delivering the baccalaureate sermon at 11 AM. The main ceremony is Thursday at 10 when degrees are conferred by President J A Hill after the speech by Hon R A Stewart ex-student and former Texas legislator. The class calendar already includes the April 25 performance of the play The Gossipy Sex.
