AVG Fliers Destroyed 5,000 Japanese Planes Says Glover

Byron A. Glover, Curtiss Wright official who supervised AVG plane assembly in Burma, said AVG pilots destroyed 5,000 Japanese planes with few losses. He noted AVG losses: six pilots killed and six captured out of 100 planes, many grounded for parts. He described P-40s taking hits yet returning, while Japanese planes lacked durability. He also praised Japanese skill and recounted AVG tactics and a display of Warhawk and Curtiss Command planes at the plant.

R C Gower Child Dies In Amarillo Area

LaWanda Joy Gower seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs R C Gower died this morning at 8 30 o clock after a brief illness. She is survived by her parents a brother Richard Gower of Amarillo and her grandmother Mrs Janie Qualls of Priona. The body is in state at the Blackburn Shaw Chapel pending funeral arrangements.
