Burglars Take Narcotics and Cash at Maxor Drug

Narcotics thieves hit the Maxor Drug in the Fisk Building in Amarillo taking unknown narcotics from a locked cabinet and about $200 in cash. Building night custodian J A Howard saw the opened lobby door around 11:30 p.m. Police noted two other burglaries last night at R W Chaney’s Cafe and The Post Office Barber Shop, with tools and coin-operated equipment missing. Weather and rainfall reports followed, detailing May totals and regional amounts, with forecasts for more rain and prospects for Panhandle crops.

Local Convention Vote Tally Shows Split Margin Shift

Early unofficial tallies favored the Rogers group by 15 votes 1027 to 1012. Navarro County switched its 20 votes to the anti Truman side, clouding the final result as 50 counties were considered and the convention moved on.

General Motors Strike Averted By 1 1/2 Cent Wage Hike

An 11 cent hourly wage boost with cost of living adjustments over two years prevented a strike by 225 000 GM workers. Bus Service Restores Amarillo Lubbock Route After Strike

Bus service between Amarillo and Lubbock resumed today after a three day strike lapse. The first Texas New Mexico and Oklahoma Coaches bus arrived in Amarillo about 10 am and left for Lubbock at 10 30. About 20 to 25 southbound passengers were aboard the coach. An official said two more schedules would run today. A temporary restraining order against strikers was issued in Lubbock with a hearing set for tomorrow morning.
