Rain moved from the Panhandle to the Eastern Panhandle easing drought with Hale County totaling 5.55 inches in 30 hours. B H Thomson, district representative, notes the commission has collected over 9.5 million dollars from about 1200 employers and created benefit accounts for more than 60,000 people.
Postmaster W D DeGrassi announced Amarillo post office will enter in the Portland Postal Employees National Air Mail Rose Show during the Portland Rose Festival June 8 10 11 and 12. The show aims to prove Air Mail Service speed and efficiency for cities on air mail terminals and those connected by train and star route service.
Amarillo delegation travels to Clovis New Mexico for the Pioneer Days Celebration on June 3. The chamber of commerce newly appointed good will committee will operate for the first time on the trip led by Clay Thornton with Mark Taylor and Jim Florey as members. A Chinese government patrol boat fired across the bows of two Japanese fishing boats off Dairen Manchukuo near the Bay of Chihil entrance. One Japanese fisherman was wounded in the arm. The gunboat halted the boats and then released them after men boarded. Japan planned to protest to China.

Rain yesterday postponed safety lane tests for Amarillo motor cars that were to run the first three days of this week. Captain M I Berry of the state highway patrol said four full days are required to complete them, with permission from Austin delaying the tests indefinitely. Mayor Ross D Rogers urged motorists to cooperate in the tests, which last year set a new state record for cars traveling through the lane.

H T Whittington pled guilty to permitting a gambling device on premises. He was fined $25 and court costs by County Judge Newt Riggs after deputies found a 25 cent slot machine at the Giles Hotel Bar. Total fines and costs amounted to 47.20 according to county records.
Gov. James V. Allred commissions Rolla V. Cartwright as Ambassador of Good-Will. Cartwright leads Amarillo Shrine delegation to South Plains Shrine Day in Lubbock with Amarillo Shrine orchestra and quartet performing. Parade at 6 p.m. and dinner follow.
President Roosevelt urged stronger investor safeguards in corporations reorganized under the Bankruptcy Act. He appealed to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Sumpers and House Interstate Commerce Chairman Lea, citing investigations showing the need for remedial legislation to curb abuses in corporate reorganizations and protect uninformed investors.

Amarillo resident W. A. Stewart aged longtime resident died at his home on Harrison after a long illness. His wife Jennie Mae Stewart died last week following a stroke.
Three more young men enlist in the United States Army from Amarillo recruiting office announced today by Sergeant R. A. Jackson. Frank Brown of Pampa joins field artillery bound for Pt Warren Wyoming Albert H. Hardison of Los Angeles California enlists in the same army to Fort Warren Wyoming Walter G. Scivally of Clarendon joins the second engineers at Fort Logan Colorado.
Roy Hagerman, former Amarillo resident, writes from city hall noting time in the Treasury Department and Civil Service addressograph duties. He says he enjoyed the work across from the White House but dislikes Washington and plans to remain in Amarillo with his new postal card job.
W W Davis and Fred H Galle will travel to Pueblo Colorado tomorrow to assist Shriners of Al Kaly Temple in ceremonial activities. Davis is a past Khiva Patrol president and a Khiva Shrine charter member with long active service.
County Tax Collector Jewell Davidson is invited to attend a Southwest regional conference of tax assessors next Monday and Tuesday. The National Association of Assessing Officers sponsors the meeting, with invitations sent by the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Speakers include Gov. F. W. Marland and the association president.
Gulf Oil Corporation matched an 8 cent rise in East Texas crude to $1.35 a barrel retroactive to last Saturday. Stanolind Crude Purchasing Co and Magnolia Petroleum Co led the move, followed by Humble Oil and Refining, Shell, and the Texas Company. Sinclair Refining did not announce a posting yet, among major buyers in the region.
Plans and specifications for the West Sixth Avenue underpass reach the city commission for approval. The structure is expected to cost about $130,000 with a June 4 contract letting by the state highway department. The diagonally crossing railroad line requires a long 70 foot span without a middle support, yielding an exceptionally heavy construction.
