The University of Chicago announced that two of its zoologists found that fish drink water. Officials say the emergency plan under development does not imply a higher likelihood of attack, per NLRB authorities. Eric Biddle, a civilian mobilization consultant, is involved.
The NLRB chairman heads a federal committee with Washington Seattle and Chicago authorities. A meeting with Washington officials and private civil defense workers produced a 23 point check list. Experts in 36 fields must supply plans within a week detailing actions for handling people and equipment during a national emergency, before and after.
Gordon Tyron, 17, climbed a house roof at 1033 Bowie to remove ivy when a brick dislodged and he slid down the steep surface. He plunged onto an awning, then fell to a chair on the concrete porch, escaping with no injuries.

Amarillo mechanic Bennett Haley aged 34 died in an early morning automobile wreck a mile north of Taloga Oklahoma after his car failed to negotiate a curve and plunged into a ditch. Two companions Virgil Bunger and Barney Laird escaped injury. Haley worked for Plains Machinery Company and is survived by his wife and two children Charlotte and Bill.
United Nations secretary general Trygve Lie sees a better than 50 50 chance of a big power agreement within the year to start a series of special Security Council meetings on cold war problems. He met with Attlee Bevin and later with Stalin and other Soviet leaders and aims to hold secret meetings at foreign minister level this fall with two such sessions annually thereafter. The effort, long range, seeks discussion rather than immediate decisions as the major powers test the idea.

Chicago May 23 Television is cutting into restaurant business says Andrew J. Crotty president of the National Restaurant Association. He reports meal sales nationwide off seven percent as supper-time business slips. TV viewing keeps fans at home leaving fewer patrons for meals.
Funeral services are set for Cleve Rice Hudson a 56 year old Amarillo police veteran living at 117 Travis County. Rev Earl Hatchett will officiate at Pierce Street Baptist Church at 2 pm with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery under Blackburn Shaw directions. Hudson died last night after a long illness from injuries in a past automobile crash. He moved to Amarillo in 1927 and joined the force on June 24 1935 after working as a boot maker and shoe repairman. He was born January 13 1895 in Ardmore Oklahoma and stood 6 feet 2 inches tall weighing 200 pounds.
